Hey,

I got a 04 GSF and it has been running great for me. I havent used the bike for 3 days cauz of the rain, and took it out tonight, and it really feels like i lost power. It feels slower then it normally does. But the weird thing is, it runs perfectly. No clunks, nothing. Sound good, but doesnt seem to have the "omph" it had a few days ago. Doesnt bog or anything, but full throttle, it just isnt the same for some reason.  I cant seem to figure it out. So if anyone knows what this problem might be from my short discription, let me know.

Thanks guys.

Stefan.

The bike simply refuses to perform when you don't ride it. I can't let my bike sit for more than four days, otherwise she will act the same way. Could be the battery discharging over that time, just doesn't give the "spark" that it once had.

This dampens my enthusiasm for getting a newer "F" model to replace my "E."  Is this something the bike will work through?  --MMD

My 1st guess what a tank of bad gas, as i filled it up before i had rode it for the last time for the 3 days of non riding. Its not that significant the power loss. I can still do my wheelies, but it just feels like its not there. It revs, but it doesnt seem to go as fast as it did. I know for a fact that it seems slower. My friend who rides a ZX9R rode mine and agreed as he rode it before. I am taking it out tomorrow so ill wait and see.

...hmmm, never noticed that on my bike, still has the same ooomph it had when I bought it last year - still riding well after 3600 km on it....

Have you checked tire pressures?

bad gas???  Is this when oxygen mixes with the gas and messes up the carbs?  steph dont you love just winnipeg weather, nice in april and crap in may

Related to this topic, I havent riden since a quick ride last weekend. My tank is full and probably wont have a chance to take it out for another week or more...summer course + work in studio. So, is it better to 'store' with a full or empty tank and should I have put a stabalizer in with the gas since I knew it would be sitting for this amount of time?

I'm just kidding in my previous post...

It's in your head. I've ridden bikes after a month or two hiatus and the bike "feels" different. It's just that you 'have' this idea in your head of how the bike performs and when you don't ride it for even a day or two, your 'idea' of how it ran once before becomes glorified (like the fisherman's tale...).

Hey, Yeah this is really getting me angry. It was in the 20s in april and in may we are having weather below 10 degrees. So rediculous. The weather for this week is rain. Rain. and more rain. f%$k i hate this. for the month of may i have only ridden 3 times. What a waste of 300$ to insure the bike for the month. lol.

the temp of the air and humidity play a great factor on how much power a engine makes...if its colder, it will have slightly more power..

haha, not thanks. I am extremely proud to be Canadian. Its not the temperature that bothers me, its the rain. Besides. I rather have snow in the winter so i can play some hockey  :thumb:.

Its a mixed opinion, some ppl say to have an empty tank, some say its better to have a full tank. Its good to put fuel stabalizer if you are going to let it sit for an extended period of time. Bad gas is exactly that, bad gas.

I realized a while back that any problems from Canada were likely to be Irish conspiracies.  I mean, even your national anthem is "O'Canada," right?

BTW, a very nice anthem it is.  It's the best part of sporting events down here when a Canadian team is present, to hear that anthem.

gas when it sits for a long time will seperate into like a cleaning solvent, and some other petroleum solids that settle at the bottom of the tank,  the stuff won't burn for nothin.  if you smell it and it dosn't smell like gas then it's bad.  you might as well pour it out for all it's worth.  they make fuel stabilizers that prevent this, but they have been known to clog jets.
if you don't fill the tank the inside will be exposed to the O2 in the air and will rust.

LOL    :nana: But yeah, our anthem is great. Its weird you hear it all the time whenever there is a hockey championship.  :dunno:   I hope we will against the Czech for the gold medal today. The score is currently 1-0

Fill the tank completely full to displace most the oxygen and add stabilizer. Drain the carbs to prevent clogging.

Edit: pour the gas that you drain back into the gastank (if it's not really dirty or have a lot of flecks in it, otherwise i use it to kill weeds and ward off ants).
