Need help from the carb studs . . .

Let me start from the beginning.  I just replaced my base gasket, re-ringed the pistons, had the cylinders honed, checked the valve clearances, installed new spark plugs, changed the oil, and cleaned and tinkered with the carbs.

Put it all back together using a auxilary fuel tank so I could sync the carbs and here's the scoop:

Bike started and ran really pretty good.  However I ran out of gas in the aux. fuel tank.  Got more fuel and started again, now the thing runs like crap.  I can't even get it to idle and I've adjusted the idle screw both ways with the same result, the bike only idles when I have the throttle open.  Gas seems to be coming out of the left hand carb vacuum line (not the one that goes to the petcock, the other one) as it sputters.  

Carb setup:  40 mains, 127.5 pilot jets, 2 washers on needles, air screw 3 out - followed the poor man's jetting tutorial.  

I'm pretty frustrated, this project has taken up waaaaay too much time and money and I just want the sucker back together so I can use it - crazy huh?

Any ideas what my be wrong?  Too rich?  Throttle cable not adjusted right?

sounds like your floats may need adjusted,  possibly stuck when you ran it out of gas
oops,  you'll need a new one of them

Oops, forgot to mention that - I adjusted the floats when I had the carbs apart too.

I suppose it is possible that they're stuck.  I didn't run the aux tank dry, it was really low and I figured a tank that was a bit more full would work better.  I'll have to check that though - a little tappy, tappy on the bowls perhaps.   ;)

Your floats dropped to the floor of the float bowl when the gas got empty, then when you start filling up again and the floats must lift up ... the needle has gotten cocked and its staying open ... BTW is either a float seat being rather tight (Hone with a 1000 grit emery paper wrapped around the right size screwdriver) or float needle being too fat (replace it ... dont know how but I saw one recently that was that way) or the spring inside the needle going limp ... seen it many times, lube with wd 40 and see if it returns to life ... or replace float needle ...
