97 GS500E Petcock question.

I had a big problem with Vapor lock yesterday morning. I just bought the bike last monday and am still getting to know the machine.

saw fuel on the street under the bike yesterday. and when I tried to start it it would not turn over because of vapor lock. anyway put it in 6th gear and move the bike by hand, and went back to nutrual. the bike started no problem.

anywho.... the petcock on the side of the bike has 3 positions. I assum
Pri/Res/and no marking  :x !! I assume no marking is OFF???!?
off = no fuel under the bike and no more vaporlock.

any ideas?

you must have left it on PRI hence the fuel leak.

There are three positions: ON, RES and PRI. Always leave it on ON position. switch to RES when the fuel level gets low. use PRI when you're starting the bike and the carb is dry. but don't even leave it PRI for long time.

well it seems i might have a petcock problem , today i went outside and there was fuel leaking from the petcock.

there is an arrow on the knob that shows what setting im on. when on ON position the bike will not run at all , i have to keep it on primary to the the bike.

i wonder if this is my fuel problem at 90 - 100 mph

Can anyone help eliminate the frame petcock.

I want to run direct from the tank to the carb. and add a fuel shutoff.
