hey iw as just reading the post, i think last november i installed a vance and hines exhaust that was made for the gs500e on my 2005 gs500f. i had no problems with getting it to fit under the oil pan or obstructions with bolts. it just bolted right on. now the one problem i did have with it was where it bolted into the manifold. since there were no gaskets or a very good bolt on seal or what not. it leaked exhaust like there was no tomorrow. so i just went up to autozone baught some muffler repair cement, and some gasket material. slapped those on and now it works and sounds beautifully. i will get some pictures tonight or tomorrow and show you guys. other than were it connects i had no problems putting it on.
you can never have enough new parts for a bike

Yeah, I'd like to see it because I really don't think there is enough room in there for the header pipes.

No exhaust header gaskets??  :o  :o  :o  :o   My '02 sure has them...

Just checked the '04 exploded diagram on Ron Ayers, it still shows the gaskets...

When I took the exhaust off my '04 for the first time I didn't find any gaskets. No leaks or anything, but weird nonetheless.

Sure they weren't just stuck in the exhaust ports?  Can't imagine how it would NOT leak without something, especially given the extreme temperature range it has to seal over...

Maybe... I dunno. They could have been there. I might have missed them. Oh well.

Are most exhaust pipes the same size? I have no problem welding to fit a new can but I wasn't sure what I needed to order. I like the Scorpion Flame Titanium slip on but which one is the right size? Also what do I need to keep in mind as far as back pressure? I plan on using a K&N and having a shop rejet my bike. Do I need a shop to rejet or can I do that? Should it be done with a dyno or something?

Hey guys,

Just do what i did, buy an exhaust for a yamaha yzf600r from 99-02. It will fit it just fine.

Stefan.
So order the v&h slipon for 99-02 yzf600r right? What is the description?
FK5 / SM2 / 15t / 41t / sv650 shock ... -->GSX-R600k7

i have 2006 gs500f and i just put the vance and hines exhaust on my bike,it took about 40 minutes and it fit fine with no modifications  i only had to take the right side of the faring off and then had metric cycles custom jet my carbs with k/n filter  the guy said i didnt need to waste money on a jet kit,he custom jetted them and they are dead on with smooth power at all speeds :thumb:

How bout some pics of how you got the headers to fit under/around the bolts on the underside?

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Bingo. I want to see how the headers mate up flush with the engine, as well as their bend towards the midpipe. I'd also like to see the clearance with the oil pan bolts, etc...

ahh sux to be wrong huh the exhaust bolted up fine no modifacations at all . the only pain in the ass about that exhaust is that you have to drop your headers everytime you change your oil becuse its v shaped and not H shaped

Uhh.. actually, I think we'd both be happy to be proven wrong. So how bout those pics, so we can see how it fits around the oil pan bolts (that's the biggest issue).. Hell, if you figured out a way to make em fit, that'd be a good thing. Not that it matters much to me, as the bike I'm looking at has a Cobra slip on already.  :icon_mrgreen:

Exactly. That V shape points it directly at the oil cooler's bolts in the oil pan. It significantly reduces the clearing between the header pipes and the oil pan.  Let's see some pictures. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I have the VH exhaust on my 04 and it has issues.  It is too close to the oil cooler bolts and the clearance under the oilpan can only be measured in mm's.  It rubs against the centerstand swingarm bolt, too.  Also, the flange fit of the header is not flush.

With that said, I think with some slight mods I can make it work.  It sounds awesome and acceleration is better.
What I would like to do is use the stock header and cut off the stock single pipe and try to fit the second VH piece over the stock pipe.  Has anyone tried this?  I think I can do it without welding.  Any help on this?

And yes, I'm new on this site!

im taken the pictures tomorrw of my o6 with the vance and hines ,the guy with the clearence issue must have install it wrong because you install it first with the bolts loose then when you have it fitted properly then tighten everything up,why would i fib about this i have no reason.

Can't wait for the picsĀ  :)

YES!!! DETAILED PICS!!!

The two RED ROBOTS (APLHA & NICEGUYSFINISHLAST) are both very knowledgable, and they called BS based on past experiences AND past threads.  Trust me when I say this...

They (and everyone on this board) are happy to be proven wrong about the V&H system bolting directly with NO MODIFICATIONS.  I have an '04f, and I'd be thrilled to find a system that bolts on.

I'm thinking that the V&H system you purchased was a new model for models '04 through '06 (these have the additional oil cooler, therefore this was the original obstacle).  What model did you purchase?  Any item numbers?  Where did you purchase?

2007 YZF-R6 - Purchased 7/03/07
2004 YZF-R6 - Stolen 5/25/07

Umm, I did NOT install it wrong. Trying to get the headers to mount up flush with the engine wasn't PHSYICALLY possible because of the clearance issues I described earlier. I'd like to see it because that would open up new options for a bunch of people on here... just like I said...

I've never seen one for an '04+ on any site ever. I have heard from other people on the board that it took some modification to get the V&H exhaust to fit onto the '04s.
