what would be a good fused 12 volt source to tap into?  i've checked kerrys write up on the cigarette lighter install and he has it coming right from the battery.

edit: it also has to be switched. i dont want to have power going to it when the bike is off.

There is a connection inside the headlight case.  It is switched so it'll only be hot when running.

Ok, let's try this again. A board glitch seem to happen as I was about to "submit".

It is important to know how much current (amps) your device will pull from the system. If you pull too much current for the wire you are connected with, it will get hot enough to melt the insulation. :o

I am almost finished with Conan's power adapter box. It has a cigarette lighter style plug (these are dumb, but too greatly accepted to buck the system) with an internal fuse. This way if he blows something in the adapter box, he shouldn't take the GS out with it.

The new issue of Motorcyclist, June 05, has an ad for some nifty power connectors like BMW uses. The website is //www.powerletproducts.com and the unit shown in the ad is the PTB-004. It uses some of the polarized, splash resistant connectors I use on Conan's project (thinking ahead for you dude!).

Cool.  At $7, that Battery Tender fused battery cable is a bargain:

I built something similar with parts from stores: spools of wire, spade connectors, fuse holder, fuses, water resist cigarette lighter socket... I think I spent $25 and still had to solder it together.

The water-tight SAE connector thing looks quite useful for a Givi trunk:

...although at $25, it's no bargain.

Unfortunately, it looks like all the cigarette lighter attachments they sell are open and uncapped, which on my bike means they're sure to get coins/dust/goop in them sooner or later... even inside the Givi trunk.
You cannot escape our master plan!

ok i understand the amps issue but after all that you guys lost me.  i want to wire up a small light. the package should tell me how many amps the bulb is right?  and also wouldnt the inline fuse take care of teh overheating problem if such thing would occur?

the connection in the headlight that was mentioned,  are the wires brown with connectors on them?  i noticed this the otherday and thought maybe i hadnt hooked up a set of wires..

The switched 12V wire is brown,  the ground wire is black/white.

The wires are not equipped on US/Canada models.  On non-US/Canada models the wires are connected to a 4 Watt parking light.  When the ignition is in the ON or PARK position it is ON.

It's fused like all the other wiring (except the start moter) by the 20 A. fuse.
