I bought an Arai Astral-X this spring, and I love it. It isn't hot out here yet, so I can't comment on the ventilation from personal experience.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I would really like to try out the Scorpion line of helmets.  I just can't seem to find anyone that carries them locally.

Recently got a Nolan N100 flip up in a Ebay purchase of several items. I have been pretty happy with it in the heat and it has become my daily helmet.  I flip it up at stop lights to let some steam out.

I believe Cycle Gear in Mesa has a large line of brands to look at.

Hey... If your in Arizona I just ordered my boyfriend's scorpion from www.azmotorsports.com ...shipping takes a bit, but that's probably because we live in Florida.

+1 on the scorpion helmets. got an exo-400. kinda bothered me that they don't make em in white, but eh, whatcha gonna do? they have the exo-700 in white, which kinda boggles me tho.

don't know if anyone else mentioned this site, but a nice site for user reviews about gear and whatnot is www.motorcyclegearreview.com

If you guys haven't read the latest MotorCyclist magazine (June 05), I recommend checking it out.  There's an interesting article on which helmets are the safest, based on their own independent testing.

A $79 DOT only Z1R came in first, while the more expensive SNELL's, like Arai, came in last.  This was based on how many G's are transferred to the skull in an average crash.

Anyways, I recommend reading and judging for yourself.  :thumb:

Shoei RF1000.  Period.  Kicks the crap out of my HJC, and even in black my head stays cool here in the high desert.  We are at 4500 feet (no atmosphere=cooking alive) and it consistantly hangs in the upper 90's.  The vents can, in my opinion, flow too much air, to the point that my scalp feels super cooled, so I partially close them and things are good again.

I just bought a HJC CL-14 FUSE.  Its really nice, and comfortable.  It was on sale for $230 Canadian.
