I have a chance to help out an older lady that just became a widow.  She wants to sell me a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 450 with 9,000 miles on it for $450.00 .  It has some rust on it, needs tires, chain, basic TLC.   It hasn't been ridden for 3 years.  A neighbor friend of hers bought a battery and put gas in it and it starts perfectly.  It even idles smoothly.

I am going to buy it from her regardless of the deal.  I really want to help her out.  I want to tackle it as a cafe racer project.  My question is, how much is too much rust.  I haven't inspected it in detail, but what can be done about the rust on the frame and or inside the Gas Tank?

Thanks in advance

gas tank = kreem or por15.

frame rust, grind it down and paint it.. if you need to stiffen it up you're going to have to cut the piece off and reweld or get a new frame.

But i think you should be good for 450.

shouldn't be a whole lot of rust considering it's an az bike?  :dunno:

Well I bought the bike today.  I will post pics soon.  Then let the ideas and suggestions come.

For $450... It would be worth coating the tank or even buying a no-rust new/used one...
