I remember seeing a thread about smeone making headers?  I could not find it for some reason.  Any way, The end result was that it would cost to much due to the tight bends.  I was looking at a summit racing equipment catalog,  The sell 1 1/2 and 1 5/8 j and u bends for making headers.  from the dimensions it appears that only 2 would be needed to make the entire gs exhaust.  if any one is intereseted they are about $10 apiece.  I was thinking about giving it a try, but I dont weld thin material very well.  also thinking about the crossover,  has anyone tried replacing it with an X style cross over as opposed to the stock H style?

i don't know about making new headers from scratch. it would be cool to see an x type crossover, i'm not an engineer by anymeans so i'm not sure if there would be an advantage, but it might be cool.

i've found a full exhaust system from a cbr1000rr, and plan on cutting my headers as close to the head as i can and using the cbr exhaust from there on back. it will require alot of cutting and what not, but i know an old hot rod building type guy that might be able to do the welding and what not for me. i'll post some pics when it gets together.

the x type cross over serves the same purpose as the H but does it without disrupting the exhaust flow with 90* angles.  Im gonna talk to a friend at my dads shop to see if he can help me fab the crossover and flanges for the heads.  The crossover may block the oil filter now that I think about it,  Ill have to check

how much of a difference is made by removing the crossover, like the vance and hines system does (i think)?

im not sure what difference it would make,  I know on a v-8 car a crossoverbetween the pipes can give ou an extra 8-10 hp.  granted thats 8 cylinders not 2.  I suppose it has a similiar effect just not as much increase.   what they are supposed to do is help scavenge exhaust and equilize the exhaust post.  it also change the tone of the exhaust.  a Carwith a properly installed crossover will have a deeper tone then on without.  this has to do with out of sinc high pitched soundwaves cancelling each other out..

good old exhaust pulses. if there were a place you could get cheap dyno access that would be neat to mess around with various pipe configurations. but i think an x pipe would look cool. and if it sounds deeper, that would be cool too.

if I could afford dyno time,  I would play with a stepped header. ( several different pipe diameters).  the placementof the steps is critical to the performance and with out the dyno It would be almost impossible to get it right

stupid dyno costing money. if i ever get my shop built (life long dream, yadda yadda, give it five years) i'm gonna do all kinds of super low cost dyno stuff for people making awesome stuff when the big corporate aftermarket has failed. but that won't be anytime soon  :(  all in good time.

there be some pics of Levelers exhaust, its a 2-2 witha basic header collector and a Y fitting for the left and right midpipes.
