Can the brake rotors be turned?

If there's enough thickness left, can the brake rotors on the GS (I have a 93) be turned?

My rear rotor has some  light "scalloping" to it (can feel small ridges with my fingertips if I run them lightly over it) and the pads are going to need replacing soon.

I figure there's no point replacing the pads on a chewed rotor  unless I  get them turned or replace them.   Been looking at replacment rotors - pricey! I'm probably losing my job w/in 6 mos (company got bought) so I'm watching the pennies.

Thanks in advance,
Liz

No. You may be able to have a machine shop surface mill the rear rotor but the small ridges do not cause any problems. Best to get a used rotor. Should be able to find a rear for under $20 on ebay.

are there any rotors from other bikes that are compatible w/ the GS? if so, which can be used?

88-97 Katana GSX600/750 use the same rear rotor.

I do not know of any other bikes that use the same front rotor.

According to the Dennis Kirk website, the aftermarket EBC Pro-Lite rotor for the front (right side) also fits:
    Suzuki  RF900R  1994-1997
    Suzuki  GSF1200SA Bandit  1997
    Suzuki  GSF1200S Bandit 1997-2003
    Suzuki  GSF1200 Bandit  2001-2003[/list:u] :dunno:

PS: The Dennis Kirk part number is
194812.  The EBC part number is MD3006RS.
