Installed new clutch cable yesterday (the right way). Took the tank off.

Ok so can't get the damn thing to line up...I can see two rubber stops on both sides. Should those  be wedged inside the frame, or just rest on the frame.

Maybe it just needs to move forward a little.

Will take a pic if you guys think I'm crazy.

I think this model year tank has a "u" shaped clip on the front (underneath) that slides around the frame crosspiece just behind the steering tube. The crosspiece has a "u" shaped rubber bumper on it that the tank "u" wraps around holding the front of the tank down.

If that is in place and you can align the rear end bolts up easily, you should be good to go. Give us a pic if you are still having trouble.

Those little cube-shaped jobbies?  They just rest on top of the frame.

That's probably it.  Just like you needed to pull the tank toward the rear to get it off the bike, you need to give it a forward shove to get it all the way back on and line up the bolt holes.

Make sure that the rubber mount thingy that wraps around the frame under the front of the fuel tank is still firmly in place.  Mine has come unglued before and moved/rotated when I pushed the tank back on.  If it has bunched up in the wrong place it can cause alignment problems.
