hey guys,

I just came back from the zuki demo day, i test rode a gixxer 750. The dealer itself is about 60 km out of the city, but it was well worth it, my buddy on his zx9r came with me for the ride as i didnt wanna go alone , haha, anyways, i get to the dealer then i hop on the  bike, and take off, so we go on the highway then my buddy tells me to give it some throttle, to open it up at 14,000 RPM, at 1st i told him that its not even broken in, and it aint good to do it and shaZam!, but then i realised that its a demo bike, so who cares, so i make a u-turn on the highway, then decide to crack her open. I have never experienced anything like it before. My mouth dropped. I was at 5000 rpm when i decided to give it WOT. Anyways, the .00003 seconds it took to get to 9000rpms, all of a sudden, the damn front wheel came off the ground, and there i was, doing a wheelie with this demo bike, at about 100kmph in 1st gear, haha. I almost shat my pants. My buddy was all laughing, cauz he knew thtat the front wheel was gonna go up, and hell, i sure didnt. So anywyas, after going 190kmph, i thought that the bike is a crazy beast, and i wanted to buy it. So there you go. That is my story of the day. Sorry if this is too long and boring, but hey, i got nothing else to do. Moral of the story. Dont give it WOT on a bike you dont know about. haha.

Redlining not-broken in bike? :nono:

I would not want to buy the bike after that.

demo bikes are like rental cars

you beat the piss out of them because they are not yours

It's because of $hit like that that you can't buy a demo bike.

Edit - I hate seeing machinery abused on principle.  A demo ride is for you to see if the bike fits you and is more or less a good match for what you want - not carte blanche to wind the crap out of it pre-breakin just to have the experience of going WOT on a bike you'll never own.

Jazzzzz

there's competing theories as to breaking in a bike - the mototune guy suggests driving the bike like you stole it for about 20 minutes (within the first 10 miles of riding), then ride normally, and change your oil as soon as you get home.  something about seating the piston rings better, who knows.  certainly more fun than keeping it under 5 large for a few hundred miles.

I guess, that's why demo rides are not offered very often. I am glad my bike had 2 miles when I bought it.

stefman722

My bike had 0 km also.

I will probably be giving my deposit for the exact bike i used on the demo ride on monday. So its all good. I wrecked my own bike. lol

Perhaps, but to support Roadstergal's point, it's not "cricket" to abuse someone else's bike, even if it's a dealer.

All that's needed to kill the idea of dealers to offer Demo rides is to have abuse turn into an accident.  That's why Demo rides are extinct around my part of the country.  :(

we have demo days here, i need to take advantage of it.

i need to start doing wheelies on the GS then when i go to a bigger bike it wont freek me out when i pull the front end up. ive done a couple of small wheelies nothing really 100% controlled. I think i might take a stunt class or something if i can. I feel that if i can control a couple of stunts itll help me with a bigger bike.

congrats man, now you have the i want this bike disease. i get that by just sitting on newer bikes

So, you CRASHED your GS and now you want a GSX750?  And how long do you expect THAT bike to last?

Another myth (I4s have no balls at low RPMs) bites the dust eh?

So much for all the people who INSIST I4s suck at low RPM and the ONLY way to get power down low is a v-twin.

I got hit by a lady running a stop sign, that is hardly my fault. I am a very careful rider.  :thumb: Hey, atleast i was smart enough to start with a bike in which i can start to ride right?

My apologies for "jumping the gun".  You must admit, hearing about your test ride DID make you sound a little "wild".

Good job.  I recommend the GS to EVERYONE as a first bike.  Fast "enough" but it won't "bite you" when you make a mistake.

Thats alright. Yeah, the test ride was nuts tho, I was just used to the power band of the GS, and on that bike, ya know, it let out the "wildness" in me. haha.

Yeah, there is a couple outside winnipeg. I bought my bike at Austin Sports centre in austin which is like an hour and a half away, and where i went to test ride the bike was at the Beausejour dealer which is like 40 minutes away. I dont like the suzuki dealer in the city. That guy isnt very cool at all. It doesnt seem like he wants anyones business. So, i just dont deal with him.  :thumb:
