JUST fork oil replacement

1. would I feel any difference if I just replace the oil?  perhaps 20wt?

2.  Can I just use a large syringe or turkey baster to remove say 300ml of oil, and then put 300 ml of 20 wt in?  is it an acceptable method?

3.  is fork oil just as mixable as normal engine oil? (as far as different weights)

20wt might be a bit to heavy but just take the forks off its pretty easy, and give them a good clean out  i'd imagine your oil would be pretty used by now I did mine yesterday and was suprised to see how dirty it was after just 13000km not black but quite gray so take a bit of extra time and do it proper you will find it worth it try a 15wt oil most recommend it  :thumb:  :cheers:

1. Yes, it should be replaced every two years. Only go to a heavier weight if you abuse the front end like a racer or are a heavier rider. Stock is 10wt, and while on compression a thicker oil will be a "spring helper" to help keep the fork from bottoming too quickly, it will not allow the spring to return the wheel to the ground as quickly as it goes over bumps, and you'll get yourself into a 'speed wobble' situation, because the suspension can't keep the front wheel in contact with the road. Stunters need not apply.

i put 15 in mine and other peoples gs's that i service, no problems, 20 is too heavy for these forks, will pop the seals

If the forks are removed from the bike in order to remove the old fork oil (that is, turn it upside down to drain), would it be any additional benefit to flush the old oil with something. ?? Or is this overkill ??

And if so, what are some of the more common cleaners ??

how about half 10w and half 20w (i have a bottle of 20w from one of my friends)......as far as "doing it right" i wanted to wait 'till i get my progressive springs to do complete removal of the forks....

use metholated spirits to dilute remaining oil, leave upright for 10 mins or so, and drain, use 15 with progressives, don't bother mixing, waste of time and effort
