Church6360 - So they do have a max. stopping distance.  Hmmm, maybe the guy I had was just lazy.  It was early on a Saturday morning.  We were told to meet at a church parking lot.  This guy pulled up in a retired police cruiser, stood in front of it, and just barked orders from there the whole time.  I only saw one guy fail, but that's because he couldn't ride in a straight line!

Aced it the next day...
That's not cheating... It's studying!

Are you taking it at the North Seattle DMV?  I dunno about the other places, but there, the course is painted out on the ground.  Go there when the office is closed.  With your back to the DMV, make the sharp left-hander without touching the lines.  Then make another left and stop with your front wheel in the box facing the DMV. Then pull a U-y and do the cone weave - the squares on the ground is where the cones will be.  Then make a right turn at the sharp left from before, and pull a U-y at the other end without touching the lines (three-sided box at the side where you started it all).  Then go to the other side, and facing the DMV, get it up to 15mph and hit the brakes as soon as you get to the thick line (the thin lines are what they measure for stopping distance).  Then go back and do the same thing, except swerve in between the red lines instead of stopping.
Drop the bike, you fail, so go over a line if you have to to avoid dropping the bike.

Yes I am taking it at the North Seattle DMV. Thanks for all the advise I will go there next week and practice before the test.

here is just a repost of the diagrams that John put in the other thread

The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

and for scottWV. i think the stopping distance is determined by your speed that you decide to maintain between the two lines in run 3. the guy that examined me used a stopwatch for a few parts, by timing me at a constant speed through two marks a known distance appart he could calculate the "appropriate" stopping distance. just my guess.

Just for the heck of it, I looked in my "Motorcycle related' folder in my files, and found my test sheet.  It says I stopped in 10 feet, and 10 feet were allowed.  Hmmm.  Personally, I still think the guy really was just too lazy to care.  I did get points for hitting a cone.
