Dead Speedo

Pulling out of the driveway today, I noticed that the speedo/odo weren't moving.  What went wrong?

Somethings can cause the speedo to not operate, like a broken speedo cable.  Somethings won't, like a broken foot peg.   :lol:   Seriously, try to isolate the problem.  Start with the simple things first.

(1) Check the cable connection to the speedo housing.  They can come loose.
(2) Check the cable connection to the wheel hub.  Although that is not likely to come loose.
(3) Check the actual cable itself by removing it at both ends.  There should be a steel-spring cable inside the black outer casing.  It should be one long piece and can only slide out of the outer casing from the wheel side IIRC.

If those check out ok, then very likely it is your speedo unit, which can be harder to fix.

Ed is exactly right.  I had this problem, and it turned out that my speedo-cable had snapped in two.  The good thing about this is that your 'odo' isn't turning anymore, which means...  ride all you want, and you're not putting any miles on you bike. :lol:  :lol:  :lol:   Seriously, if I remember right a new cable is pretty cheap ($20).  I think I got mine at Bikebandit.com  they have a ton of OEM parts, and if I remember right they have some really good diagrams that help.
