This was a thread on another board I frequent and it has become a hot topic..

How many drinks will you have before you will not ride?

Some have said "Two wheels, Two beers"
Some have said "No more then 1 per hour"

The majority have said "None at all"

How do you guys feel about this?

Jazzzzz

I won't ride or drive if I've had more than one beer/drink in the past two hours.  If I'm going out for the evening/to a party/whatever, I won't drink unless I plan on being out for at least 4 hours, and hold my drinking to two beers within the first two hours and won't drive until another two have passed.  More often than not, I just won't drink if I have to drive or ride.

My Name Is Dave

I went out one night to a bar with friends on the bike and didn't plan on hitting the sauce. But I thought of the one beer per hour that your body can metabolize, so i had one in the hour and a half that we were there. I felt less secure on the bike on the way to my house to drop it off (so I could really get boozed   ). I'm no slouch when it comes to drinking, but I was shocked that even one beer made me feel less skillful on the bike. I'll stick to 0 beers from now on.

If I've had that 3rd       beer, I won't drive for 4 or 5 hours

also, that formula changes if I haven't eaten anything.

I don't drink if I'm going to be riding or driving that day. So, zero.

I've had a no drinking and no riding policy for several years now.  I made an exception on St. Patty's Day 3 or 4 years ago, and that opened my eyes to just how STUPID it is to drink and ride.  I really wasn't very drunk, but when I got home I decided to not do it again.

Finally got a good job.  Hooray me!!!

I still love beer.  Hooray me!!!

I won't ride at all if I drink any alcohol. And I will only drive if I have one drink and wait an hour before driving. I don't even want to take the chance. Too much at risk.

wow, I'm impressed at how responsible everyone is here. In general I never drink and ride. One time I had one beer and then rode home, and I still didn't feel completley safe. It's odd, because I can drink several beers and still drive a car without even noticing the effects, but when I got on my bike with just one beer I could notice the difference. Anyway, I haven't done that again. Keep the riding and the drinking seperate!

I think people are just as impaired in a car as on a bike after a drink or two - they just notice it more on a bike.  :P  For me, I rarely drink, and I only do it if I'm done for the day.  If I do have to go out, I wait an hour (I almost never have more than one drink anyway).  I've gone to wine tastings, and there I only take a sip the wine and then toss the rest; I still wait an hour or more after the last sample.  There's usually pretty scenery and good cheese to distract me while I wait.

I have a friend that takes his scooter (literally a 50cc scooter) if he wants to go out drinking.. he says the wind in the face keeps him just sober enough to make it home where he usually wakes up in the front yard with the scooter on top of him..        :thumb:

I also have a good friend that sold his Harley after he woke up one morning after a bender, the front door of his house was wide open and the bike was parked next to him in the living room and was completely out of gas as if it had ran all night..

If I'm lieing, I'm dieing!

I have my M2 so i can't have ne legally, but norally I stik to one or two, and thats it.  with my G licence i can have the legal limit, and in bartending school I learned i can have 4 beers in 2 hours and be under the limit, but i go by how i feel.  If 4 hit me, and i got a buzz i won't drive till its gone.

The very, very first effect of alcohol is to impair judgement.  That's why it's good to have a system that does not rely on your judgement at the time (an hour per drink vs. "I feel ok").

daneilah

In Ontario we have graduated licencing for bikes (and cars).  While you have your M1 and M2 licences, there is zero tolerance for alcohol.  This will keep me honest until I get my M licence (can test for it after 2 years).

At the moment I cannot imagine riding a bike under the influence.  I'm planning to never drink and ride, even after the restriction is lifted.

Wish me luck :?
