it was a uni.  i noticed when she whould barely start, and whouldn't run without the choke.  I was thinking float levels and a clogged jet cause she likes to die when i get on the brakes hard.
I'm not the first though to have a negitive experence with the uni though. they have a habit of falling apart.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME!!!!

I posted here about a "rattle" that didn't change with bike speed but seemed to occur just off idle when cracking the throttle, SOMETIMES...  It took me MONTHS to figure it out.  I was so concerned that it was oil pressure...It freaked me out for a LONG time.  One day I just said F'it and started tearing into it until I found that @$@# lid rattling around in there.

I was so @#$@# torqued that I did not find it earlier.....  In the filter's defense, I bought the bike in 93' and it was 2003 or 04 when the filter "incident" happened and I had never changed the filter.  Being the cheap S.O.B. that I am, I siliconed the end back on and ran another couple of months before getting a K&N.

Congrats on the find..that thing drove me crazy.   :guns:

i'll drill a couple holes in it when the sun comes up and safety wire it on.

Do I need to empty the oil to change the filter?

The air filter?  No.  But you do need to unbolt the tank and lift the rear of it to gain access to the filter.

Change "Spray starter fluid" in the picture below to "Air filter is":

Oh, snap...I thought the picture up top was an oil filter. D'oh! What type of air filter is that anyways?

What do you spray starter fluid into the airbox for anyways?

To start the bike i'd imagine :thumb:

If a bike is having trouble firing, esp in the cold weather little puff of starter fluid and it is off and running

We used to have this tiller that would only start on WD40... put a little of that under the air filter and that old Briggs and Scrapem came to life
82 GS850GL..... yeah i kinda sold out

It's a UNI foam filter.  In fact, here is the very same unit before I sold it to davipu:

WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FILTER!
