Can somebody tell me what the inlet dia. of the carbs is for a 2001? mm or inch.

Nope sorry, that's venturi diameter -- the smallest part of the carb throat.

This is the K&N "lunchbox" air filter for the GS500:

According to the page, inlet diameter is 60mm.
