Oil/filter change screwed with idle / choke?

Hi guys, a few quick questions for you.

I just performed my first oil change on my GS (thanks for the instructions, Mike -- they complemented my Clymer's well).  When I was done, I noticed a few things:

1) My idle was now really low -- somewhere around 800 RPM.

2) Applying the choke no longer seems to do anything.

I fiddled with  the idle adjust (it seems to give me around 1000 RPM worth of play) but when I twist it up too high my RPMs take too long to drop off after applying throttle.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Cay

How much oil did you put in, and what weight oil did you use?

I used around 3 L of 10W-40 Valvoline 'Durablend' -- a synthetic blend.
