I love my GS however I would like a little bigger bike. i just found a 2001 GSXR600 with 11,000 miles and in very good shape. Only thing is that it has a lot of custom work done to it such as paint, lowered, polished and chrome things. The only performance mod is and yoshimura exhaust. The guy is wanting $5500 firm, my question is do you think the bike is worth it? Thanks for any input on this.

davipu

nope, it's only worth 3500.  all that "custom" crap is worse than laying it down. which he probably did before he painted it.

I agree with davipu...don't let him convince you that his mostly cosmetic mods ad value, they don't (unless you personally happen to really appreciate them, in which case, suum cuique).

I've heard more than once that ALL mods decrease the value of a motorcycle.  Especially purely cosmetic mods.  From the limited discription you gave of the bike it sounds like this guy wanted to be in "Biker Boyz", which means he very likely is a squid.  So, his bike may not be in the best mechanical shape.  You asked for opinions, so there. :nana:

sink, don't jump to a 600 that quickly without looking at the SV650 which is so much of a better bike (unless you're gonna take it to the track)... As for the price of the gixxer, i agree it's kinda high, and the only mods you should factor in the final price would be exhaust, suspension (ohlins, penske, etc.), power commander, and brakes.  this means plastics, paint, chrome wheels, etc. should be pretty much ignored... you could get a sweet '03 SV in the low $3K range and be just as satisfied with it as any 600... just my opinion, do as you please :)

I would have a very hard time buying almost any of the larger japanese sport bikes used. I get the feeling that most people think of them as toys and treat them as such. IMHO if you find an afermarket exhaust on a bike like that, there's a higher chance that it was beaten on. Do you really want to own a bike that may not have been well maintained and likely had the crap beaten out of it for the first 11,000 miles of its life?

LOTS of people mod their bikes.  Look at all the crap the people here do to "make it pretty".  That doesn't mean it's been dropped, abused, anything.  It doesn't mean it hasn't either.

Look it up on NADA.com and see what it's worth.

Then decide if it's worth it to you.

Remember, this is a pretty big jump in performance, sure you can handle it?

Well I know the guy that has owned the bike since new, and fortunately he has never laid it down or anything he has taken very good care of it, he just liked the show look. Thanks for all your guys input, I think I am going to go ahead and buy it while I have the money. :)
