I'm lookin' at getting a gs500 for my first bike. The only problem i've had is that i couldn't find one in my area. Yesterday i found a 2001 gs500 for $2800. It has 11,000 miles on it and seemed to be in good shape. I was just wondering if this is a good price, if the bike is in decent shape. Thank you for your time.        Patrick

I figured I could probly talk them down on the price. I'm on my midnight shift right now, so I havn't had a chance to call and talk to the guy. So hopefully he'll go down on the price. Thanks for your info. This is my first bike and I didn't wanna get screwed right from the start.

Remembered this one from the for sale section. Its a little higher than 2800, but its a few years newer and has fewer miles.

I've been keeping a spreadsheet of eBay GS sales since April 1, 2004. Only two 2001 GSs have been sold or listed since then. The average price of those two was $2499.99. This does not take into account market and condition. Just price.

Dead nuts on target again davipu!  :thumb:

You can find a cheaper GS. The questions you must ask yourself are:
1) Does it need work to be road worthy?
2) Do I have the skills (tools, space, time, or want to learn) to wrench?
3) How much do I want to spend?

Now if you come across an 89 needing some wrenching, let me know.  ;)

The Kelly Blue Book value is $2320. 11,000 seems a bit high for a '01; I bought my '90 w/ 17k on it. $2800 is a rip-off...

I bought mine (96 GS500E) for $1,400.00 and it only had 4,500 miles on it.  Runs perfect.  for 2003, I wouldn't pay anything :thumb:  more than $2,500.00

Startwalt... There was an '89 for sale at a shop in columbus two weeks ago.. I think they wanted $1900.. for it. If you're interested I'll run by an see if it's still there.

I always use KBB for reference, if i get a car/bike at blue book retail price, i feel that i got an average deal, but i always start negotiating with the trade-in price (afterall it's what the dealer is going to offer that person anyways).......Another thing, I noticed that people are way more likely to negotiate when they found out that their asking price is higher then KBB's, i think KBB is pretty much an accepted FAIR value
JUST IMHO

Geez. For $1900 it ought to be cherry and darn near perfect. No big rush right now. I've got another 90 donor (minus engine and lots of stuff) to supply pieces for my 90 project. I am looking for a "not quite basket case" 89 that is 90% there. Thanks anyway.

Well, this place had three E models for sale. I didn't really look to closely at the '89 other than the bars (a week before I fitted the '89 bars on my '04). It's a small shop, I imagine they'll take less and work with you if you're out of state. Let me know if you're interested, if you want I can run by and take a camera.

Yeah, I'd be interested in it, if you're in that area and you care to stop. I would appreciate it. Thanks...
