always.  i'll post pics tomorrow

update:

the story:  me and my buddies were doing some local twisties.  we made about 3 runs and were going for one more.  i was messin around when i hit a big pothole going straight.  the bike fell to the left and it was either bail or get squished underneath.  so i bailed of the right side.  apparently i took a few steps but who would have thought i cant run 40mph!?  well when my feet stoped running i did a face plant on the asphalt and slid 20ft on my face.  thank god for helmets :).  i only got a fat lip from my face smacking the inside.  after i was done sliding i stood right up and began running after my bike.  i watched it go down the road a bit then veer off into the woods.  came down on its left side after hitting some boulders and trees.

my bike:

list of parts:  handle bars, guage buckets and guages, front wheel and tire, seat, tank, mirrors, signals, and more im sure.

my injuries:  today was one of the days i decided it was too hot for my jacket.  im a dumbass.  i did have brand new gloves and helmet.  sneakers and jeans.  the pictures dont show the rash too well.  its all over my right forearm.  i puked when i was scrubbing it out.  my gloves did ok but wore through the pinky on my left hand and mangled it up.  still debating whether or not to get treatment (no health insurance).

what hurts the most is my ego.  it was a dumb thing i did and i wasnt even wearing the proper gear.  i'll heal up but my bike is trash.  carlisle is comin up in a month and i dont have the money for the repairs.  i spent countless hours on my bike and for what?  well im not even sure

Sometime's it's hard isn't it. Until you get a good reminder. I know the *one* time I didn't wear my jacket, a big truck pulled out RIGHT in front of me in the rain and caused me to high side. Hope it's not too bad.

Damn.

I would suggest treatment, even if its just at one of those immediate-care places. Odds are you're going to need antibiotics to keep that rash from getting infected. Pavement has all kinds of nasty bugs, and unlike a basic cut or puncture wound, stuff REALLY gets ground into your flesh with road rash.

A suggestion for treatment: use 'wet' bandages. They're available at any drug store. Theyre basically a polymer gel bound to a plastic backing. The gel holds sterile saline. You put it over the rash, and it feels MUCH better. It also tricks the body into thinking theres still skin there, so the wound heals without drying out.

I banged up my knee pretty bad once, and used them for the first week or so of healing, and it went really really fast. The knee looked kind of infected though, so I went to the immediate care place, got on some antibiotics, and had them dry bandage it. After that, it took a month to get the same level of healing I got in the first week.

Check these articles (Those bicycle guys know a *lot* about road rash, heh)

REally though, I think that injury on your hand is going to be the worst, as far as healing goes. :-(

That SUCKS BIG TIME. BIG TIME. Maybe if you post a message of what you need, some GStwin.com members have stuff laying around they would be willing to sell cheap or check Ebay. I saw some cheap parts on there the other day. This sucks. So no Carlisle???  :?
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

i think the damage to my bike is more than i can afford by the time carlisle comes around.  im not afraid of gettin back on my bike, its just that theres a lot that needs to be done and no money to do it.

Doh, much hurting :( I hope all heals up quick!  Get yourself checked out at the clinic... you might need a little extra assistance than what you can do yourself.

I'd check your frame and triple trees to see if they didn't get bent out of alignment.  A rock hit your tank and frame hard enough to seriously dent them.  Forks too.

Let's see a pic of your helmet!  I want to see the results of a 20 foot head slide!

damn man sorry to hear...heal quick, and good luck with your bike repairs

davipu

you need  handle bars, a front wheel, and a speedo.  the rest is what you want.

btw    POKE,  your road rash.    does the pinky still have full range of motion?  if it does you'll be fine.  get some hydrogen peroxide, and pour it on there twice a day it'll kill any infection, but it will dry out and scab.  the other option are the "wet bandages"  which work good too, but they cost alot more.

jamez667

rash doesn't look too bad, i had my whole shoulder and arm and hand rashed when i was DH mountain biking, tried to jump a road :) missed the other side... ya, all i did was wash it really good and then use polysporin (alternative to peroxide) after i peroxided it once to kill the initial shite, then just used gauze to keep my skin on. Oh and since im in canada i went to a doctor after i bandaged myself up and he said he couldn't have done a better job :) just change the gauze every day cause it will leak yellowy white ooze (plasma) eww... Well good luck...

I'd take that rash in to have it looked at - as said, crap gets really ground in there, and unless it's ground out, it'll get infected and scar up really badly.

Sheeot, man, I'm sorry. :(

Damn, that sucks!!!!!  Glad you able to walk away!

Check with A-train, he's got lots of parts!

I am sorry to hear about your accident. I have been there myself.

I hope I am not adding insult to injury;
If you are going to have fun in the twisties, get some good tires on that thing.
Aren't  those the stock tires?
They look quite worn.
The two most important things on your bike ( for safety sake) are tires and brakes. Get some sticky rubber on there. It is worth every penny.

weaselnoze

thanks for the comments and suggestions.  the tank for sure needs replacing.  it was leaking badly.  i was on the phone with the doctors this morning and my insurance.  i hung up on them cause they tried to make me file a claim which i dont want to do at this point.  my tires were fine.  metzler me1 in the rear.  less than 5k miles on them.  the front tire was stock and barely squeezed through inspection.  i didnt crash on a turn so it wasnt faulty tires.  i hit a pothole which threw the bike down.  i reallly reallly cant afford medical bills but im not stupid. if i really truely thought i needed treatment i would go but i think i'll be fine as long as it doesnt get infected.  oh and yea i was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt.  please dont preach about gear. i know.  i couldnt even go to walmart and get dressings w/o ppl heckling me.  but thanks again for the advice from everyone.  i'll be posting WTB post soon.
