I've disassembled my bike in order to clean the carbs myself and I noticed that my air filter in pretty dirty.  I don't know that its ever been cleaned or changed.  What are my options here?

Should I clean it somehow, or should it be replaced?  And if I were to replace it what kind of air filter should I use.  Does K&N make one for a 97 GS?

ummm.. pretty basic stuff, if it's a paper element throw it out and buy a new oem or whatever, other option is k/n drop in which keeps the stock air box, or a k/n pod which bascially attaches directly to both carbs and air box goes by by.  HTH

Hey K&N makes three options

1. Buy the direct replacement air box filter by K&N and use the restrictor w/ the stock jets.

2. Use the replacement air box filter by K&N w/o the restrictor w/ 125 main jets......might as well as put in 40 pilots while it's apart.

3. Requires extensive modifications to be successful. Is to use the K&N lunch box air filter RU2970 I think is the part number but it gets rid of that bulky air box. HOWEVER this option requires a different set of jets ranging from 127.5-150 and could be difficult to get the exact right fuel mixture....Currently it is only known that the K&N lunch box/150mains/performance pipe is "p" ...This option is for the mechanically inclined or the person who makes mucho $$$$$ :P

Running K&N LB, DJ 134 mains, and Wileyco pipe.

Runs perfect.

Im not interested in rejetting or any aftermarket exhaust - too much time and money - money I need for school, food, and to add to the few dollars I have in my "new motorcycle in '06" fund.

then you need to go with a stock air filter.

If you want a relatively new one, I will send you the one out of my old airbox. It only has about 300 miles on it, it is practically new.

IM me your address and I will mail it to you :thumb:
