crash pics from today not 56k friendly

so the bro-in-law ran into the mountain today, he was behind me and came into the corner too hot, braked too late and went splat.  just some fairing damage, broke the peg off the shifter, and pulled the frame slider out of the motor.  btw he's been riding for a couple years, this is his third bike.  just was pushing the limits and found them.   he hit doing 45 or so.

the worst of the glove damage.  there are scuffs on the other side, and other glove but this was the only place that the stiching tore. I'd never heard of the "moto gp" brand when we were shopping for gear, I wanted him to get the alpinestars ones, but they didn't match.  overall they held up pretty good.  


I let him wear my leather pants for one day and he scuffs them up.

Whoa.  At least those cbr's are pretty strudy.  You could pretty much pick'em up and ride off after a fall like that.

he's fine, he says he dislocated his shoulder though.  yeah if it wasn't for the shifter being broke off he would have rode back.  we ended up just calling a buddie and he brought a truck.

Yep.. I always wear my helmet Just looking at that pic... imagine what his head would have looked like! Prob. would have ripped his face off!

I have TWO helmets that look like that.  Seems like I average about 1 per 10 years of street riding.

The first helmet is coolest, it's got yellow paint from the lines in the street right where my forehead/left eye/chin would have been completely sandpapered off my dome.

The second one has a big ol' shatter over my left frontal lobe and the face shield is missing.  Funny thing, I looked up "frontal lobe" and among other things it controls "the ability to inhibit an inappropriate or impulsive action.....make sound judgements"   :lol:  

I'm not "Pro helmet law" but I am "Pro wearing one on MY head" all the dang time.

Good to see the Scorpion do its job and take one for the team. Last week I saw a guy flip a borrowed CBR-F4i, landed on his head. No helmet of course   Needless to say the reconstructive surgery isnt going to make his face look the same

yeah not wearing a helmet is absolutely retarded in my book.  im not as liberal on gear as a lot of people are, but helmets, gloves, and boots are what i wear 100% of the time.

So I am the bro in law...and yes I have been riding for three years.  It was a little bike...and not hard riding but still...it is riding.  And no I was not riding over my head...just still learning what I can and cannot do on my bike, seeing how it is still pretty new.  Thanks for your concern though

so tell me how this isnt over your head? you went into a corner too hot and stood the bike up braking? or did you brake in the turn, lowsiding? what happened?

most sportbikes can lean over and turn faster than most realize, or discover. I'd guess that if you didnt panic, or if you simply got off the brakes when you needed to, at whatever speed it was one could have gotten the bike through the corner. Ive done this and scared myself silly, only to find I made the corner without even dragging hard parts...

so tell us, what happened?

To answer your questions...

I pulled the bike up...then hit the brake to prevent lowsiding, why I did the weeble wobble I am not really sure.  and the bike was staying up if it was not for the pesky stuff all over the side of the road...DIRT.  That did not really help my balance issues any.  Once the bike went down I did not really remember much besides a couple tumbles and some pain.  I had rode up and down that hill a couple times already that day and the week before with no problems.  So no...I do not think i was "in over my head" at all...and how can you say that if you crash you are in over your head?   Everyone crashes...if you have been riding for a while and don't crash you are very very lucky.  There are many little things that could happen for many different reasons to instigate a wreck, given your experience may help you wreck more "gracefully" or even keep from going down every now and then...but you can not tell me that everyone who wrecks is in over their head...because it happens.
