Looks like I get to go tire shopping.  I think my rear BT45 is about toasted. :o   The are pretty worn on the center...almost to the wear bars.  Not that that is necessarily a bad thing since now that I am riding a little more aggressive it seems the tires feel a little slick when leaned over.  front tire looks pretty good but I think I am gonna just put some Sport Demons front and back.

Just a heads up in case anyone was interested in Sport Demons I got them for 171$ including shipping from http://www.americanmototire.com

I don't feel like changing them myself so hopefully the dealer will change them.  They do not sell Pirelli AFAIK so they shouldn't refuse for not buying them there.

Hmmm..  I got maybe 17,000 miles out of my first rear BT45 and Im at around 9,000 miles on my second and its nowhere near worn.

mostly highway miles though.

Just thought I'd toss it out there.

17k on a rear tire,     I cant even imagine that, thats pretty insane, whatever your doin you must be doin it right.

cobalt135

Ya, I'm not sure whats up.  This being my first street bike I didn't know what to expect as far as tire wear.  Not doing burnouts or locking the rear brake up.  Sometimes downshifting and not matching revs I can feel the back slide a bit.  Usually dont match revs when I am on the front brake since I have a hard time with the brake and blip.  I did not think I was doing it THAT much to wear out a tire that fast though :dunno:

I'm in the same boat as you, cobalt.  I put new BT-45s on my bike when I got her, and now 5000 miles later the rear is squared off a fair amount.  I'm closer to the expected tire life, but I still don't think my tire should look like this.  I too never do wheelies or burnouts, though I have occasionally skidded the rear tire when stopping hard, so idk if this is from being a newbie (probably) or just riding too many straight road or what.  I hope my next tire will wear more uniformly because I am more skilled.   But I'm still afraid that if I get too soft of a tire, this will happen again.

yep too many hwy miles for a soft tire will kill it.  if your looking for a decent milage tire find a good sport touring one.  but remember this isn't a car.  you will never get 80,000 miles out of a set of tires.

I do wheelies and burnouts all the time, you should see my rear bt45. You would kill me if u saw what she looks like, hahaha its horribly pathetic. I just dont know what tire i want yet so i havent changed it. Either another bt45 140/70/17 or sport demons 140/70/17.

My rear tire is pretty damn bad too...  I think it's the original rubber.   :o

I just can't decide how to pay for new tires...  They don't pay for blood anymore.   :x

The BT-45's are one of them with the "dual tread compound" tire construction.  Harder in the center and softer on the sides, or so the adverts claim.

I'd like to see a harder compound used on the center of the tread.  They could source their rubber from Cheng Shins Hi-Max.  That stuff wears like iron.  Grips like iron, too (not to be confused with an "iron grip").

try Avon AM51/52...i have ~11000km on them and it's not down to the wear bar yet...all highways though

Ya, I was kinda thinking along those lines too.  Ya gotta travel 120 miles for any GOOD twisties around here.  I would be happy with 5K miles on a rear....hell I have done 3k in 3 months and the nice weather riding season is about 8 months.  I haven't noticed the front squaring off any, guessing I could get about 6 to 8 thousand out of it.

Anyone need a BT-45 front 110/70-17 with 3k miles??

Gonna take my wheels in to have the new tires put on.  Just wondering if I should/need to take off the discs and sproket?  I was quoted like 25 bucks per wheel + disposal of old tires so I can live with that.

Just a pic for the heck of it

Go ahead and pull off whatever you can using just your fingers.  That includes items 9 thru 14 in this diagram for sure.  Anything that might fall out in the shop and get lost....

5000 miles on a rear  :o  17000 miles ???!?!?!?!?  :o  :o  :o

I'm exceptionally happy if I get 4000 miles on a rear bt45, like jumping up and down happy! On these Sport demons, i'll be happy if I get 3000 miles on my rear.

Do the BT45's last typically longer than the Sport Demons..?  :dunno:
