I wrecked my bike last month and now I need some forks tubes. I was quoted $170 apiece and I really would like to get them cheaper so I can have more money to fix up the rest of my bike.

I also need some new gauges; can I buy just a shell/cover and stick my old faces in there. I only had 700 miles on it and don't want to get gauges that say I have more miles on it.

THANKS to all who reply, BigTwin

Check eBay. I was there this morning and there were pages of parts for newer GS500s.

Well I just checked and found 1/2 a front suspension, but I want the whole thing all at once so I don't have to pay lots of $$ for shipping.

OK I saw a Katana front end for $150 ... Lemme see if they still have it, then I could copy dgyvers spacers and you'd be able to slap it on the GS ... Yea the gauge bucket can be bought *$35 new) and you drop in the rest off your old gauge set ... if the buckets are all that's busted ... OK you'd have to tell me if you want a Kat FE and I'll buy it right then and there on saturday ... $150 or whatever they want ... and shipping from me to you ... OH yea freaking 6% tax ... Yikes ... Prolly comes with fender, you'd have to get discs, calipers and use the GS wheel ...
Cool.

I'm thinking of just getting the fork tubes so I don't have to mess with all the other stuff. I really want to get back on the road very soon, so fork tubes would require the least amount of work.

As for the gauges, the part that the indicator lights (high beam, turn signals, etc..) are on broke as well (the part that makes a ring around the gauges). The tachometer and speedometer cylinders are in good shape though.

If anyone can get ahold of just fork tubes for a fair price let me know because that would be excellent.

Called them last week after a co-worker told me about them and they said they don't make them for our bikes or newer models because they are "thin-walled"!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if that's completely true or not. I would think they would make some for our bikes. Maybe I said something wrong (told them I needed 37mm forks for my 2001 GS500).

If anybody else has any other suggestions just chime in, all help is GREATLY appreciated, and thanks to all who replied already.

are your tubes kinked?
how badly bent are they?

yes, GS forks are 37mm, and they are thin.

They are bent around the lower triple tree clamp, not kinked though. But  I would prefer not to get them straightened unless I knew they were going to be as strong as they were originally.

I also don't know how easy they will be to get off because they are bent and won't slide straight out. Hopefully I don't have to cut them.

Check out this website.

Even if you don't buy from them you can get part numbers off up the Online Microfiche.

Sorry, "you can get part numbers off OF the Online Microfiche. "

I haven't been there in awhile so I just took a peek and they changed the format.

It now displays each page of the parts blow up as a thumb nail. Makes it easier finding stuff but I'm not sure how long it would take to load that page on a dial up.
