Hey

I just brought my bike to the dealership to get fixed cuz i was having serious fuel issues and for the life of me i didnt know why.  They told me that  they couldn't figure out how my gas cap vented, so i needed a new one (250).  But a year ago, i bought a new gas cap from them (different location) because the seal had cracked and i was getting water in the gas.  So i told them that, and they said that because I installed it, instead of paying suzuki 70/h to screw in 4 screws, i must have done it wrong and messed up the cap (yeah ok that's likely).  I'm not too sure how the tank's supposed to vent, but i didnt think it was through the cap?  Can somebody help me with the venting on my 94' gs500e?  Thanks guys

thats why they call them stealerships.......if there is something you can't do yourself, brace yourself because you'll be taking it up the a@@....the only other thing you can do is searching for some bike mechanic that is more reasonable

It does vent through the cap. I just went out, opened my tank to look at the underside of the cap, and found the two holes that are underneath each of the locking bars, but I couldn't trace a vent path to the top of the cap, but I suspect that the those two holes are a part of the vent and it vents around above the rubber seal.

It is highly unlikely that you installed the cap wrong. I do think that if those two holes get wet with gas, from sloshing, they will not vent (one was wet with gas when I opened mine, but I was rocking my bike to make sure it wouldn't fall over when I park).
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Sounds like the dealership is taking you for a ride on your own bike....I would go to a different dealer if the current one did not charge you to look at the bike and find out what they think. I really find it hard to believe that a someone could mess up installing a gas cap so bad it would mess up the flow of fuel.....but who knows. I would still take it to a different dealer.....

yeah totally,

He said he took apart the cap to see, but it was like a swiss watch (basically he didn't know how to fix it) and he didnt want to break it.  I'm tempted to drill a hole right threw the cap (i wont, but tempted)...

If anybody knows more info on venting, let me know so I can check, the holes aren't wet, i checked it, so i don't know

thanks

i believe the vent goes through the middle of the tank and out the bottom. from there a tube runs to the side of the bike.  someone correct me if im wrong.

RIP RICH! We'll miss you buddy!

I don't think that provides any venting for the inside of the tank.  It's an open drain route from the area around the cap -- for rain / spilled fuel / etc.

Just buy a new cap and put it on yourself.

Forget the stealership and their $70 an hour.

they are just looking for an excuse to not have to warranty the repair.
