Maybe someone will have an idea of what happened...
Filled up tank, drove for 70 miles all highway. Bike was running normal then it seemed like it ran out of gas, sputtering and finally stalled out.
Now I'm coasting on the left shoulder of the highway, found neutral, switched to reserve, and it started up.
Went to the next gas station filled it up (about 1 gallon) switched it from reserve and it ran fine.  Rest of the 3 hour trip no problems.
Think it was some debris in the tank which clogged it? Any other ideas to look at?

Thanks!

My '96 will go for 3 miles at 85Mph before it runs out of gas in the carbs..

It will die..

You pull over and sit for about 20 seconds and it will fire up and run like new again..

They say its the inside diameter of the fuel lines not being large enough to handle the fuel demand of the engine at highway speeds..

I'm tryin to get the stainless steel fuel lines on the bike but they are really not meant to go on the GS.

the gs is known for fuel starvation at highway speeds.  do a search for starvation and you will find a plethora of information.

yup, this has happened to me, too.  From what I've read on the boards, it's not uncommon.  I haven't bothered to read up on how to fix it, but if you do a search for "fuel starvation" you should find some fixes.

if i have to run highway i just switch to prime and just watch the miles to know how much gas i have.  I ran 190-200 miles the other weekend on one tank.
