Algae+water=Low side

Going through 2-3 inches of flowing water on the road at maybe 2 MPH.  Instant low side.  New SV650S and me ended up both lying in water.  My son following on an R1, same thing.  So now two bikes and two riders laying in water.  We stood up and fell again. That was funny.  It turns out the road was totally covered with algae.  Hand banged up badly, leathers and gloves soaked with water, bent foot brake lever, scratched fairing, scratched can, another hour of ride back home with hand pain.   :x

Frame sliders did a great job to reduce the extent of damage.

Lesson learned: respect flowing water on the road and duck walk or just walk the bike.

The same exact thing happened to my dad when he was stationed in Taiwan in the early 70's.  I guess he couldn't live without a bike, so he bought one over there and did some touring on his time off - all the way around the island, over the mountainous "hump" from one side to the other, etc.

Anyway, he and his buddy(s?) were doing the remote mountain ride thing when they came across a low spot in the road with water flowing over it.  WHAM!  Down he went.  I'll have to see if he can remember the details sometime.  I remember it being kind of a funny story, with green gunk flying everywhere, etc.

Glad you and bike came out of it without TOO much damage.  I hope the hand comes back 100%.  :thumb:

BTW, your post belongs in the General Discussion forum where everyone can read it.  Consider it moved.

Hmmm, I was wondering where the post went.

Hand was totally black blue, I think the handle bar smacked on it.  Funny thing is I don't even remember falling.  Perhaps the brain shuts off.

That was two weeks ago, now it just hurts.  I'll try to ride tomorrow.

Kerry, what's that house.  Your dream mansion?

Naw, just a cool looking place in a town called Midway, on the other end of the local canyon.  It's not far from the 2002 Olympics cross country skiing venue at Soldier Hollow.  Midway was settled by a group of Swiss immigrants (Mormon pioneer types), and the Swiss heritage is still a big deal there.  I can only assume that the "gingerbread house" has something to do with all of that.

There's a larger version of the photo at the very bottom of my Around the Great Salt Lake trip page.

Hope your hand heals so you can "feel" better ;) .
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
