is it bad if i have liquid gasket sealant in my engine?...

my cylinder cover was leaking oil...so i took it off cleaned it and resealed it with gasket sealant...some of it leaked onto the cover...so it's sitting in the internal of the cover

so my question is...is it really bad to leave it there and run the engine?...or should i take it apart and clean it off again?

how bad is melted gasket in the engine?

thanks a lot

It won't be melted - it will be solid - and if a piece of it it gets to a small oil passage and blocks it - whatever was being lubricated by that passage dies.  If it goes to your oil filter first - nothing happens.

I had this happen to me too, I over applied the gasket sealer the first time and worried about it quite often.  When I took the valve cover off again there was gasket crap in all of the little crevisous in the head, this seriously concerned me and showed that my fears were coming true.  Well I then took the oil pan off and the pre-screen for the oil pump was half clogged with that gasket crap, so I took that off and cleaned it out and then put it back together.  Now you will likely have the same problems I had, nothing serious but if the right piece got through that screen just right you could lose an important bearing.  I learned that not much of that sealant is needed, now I put a little amoung on a tooth pick and rub it on the head, Im talking very little, like you can still see the aluminum when I have finished with the sealant, I did this and only had one slight leak on one of the half moons, which was cured with some black silicone on the outside of the engine.

wow...so it's serious stuff?

i havne't run my engine yet...so what's the best way of cleaning this way up?

if i scrap it off...little pieces will just fly off...is there like a solvent i can use to soften it up to wipe it off?
