right now it grabs when the lever is almost all the way out.

i have adjusted the free play but i need to adjust the clutch so it grabs when the lever is closer to the grips.

i've got a 04 gs500f and just ordered the manual from the link on this site but it will take a few days to get here (too bad the manual only goes up to the 2002 year but i'm hopeful not too much has changed).

I have the same issue with my 05. After the first service, I think they tightened it too much.

Adjusting the free play does the same thing as adjusting the clutch. Slacken it to obtain the results you want.

Not much has changed mechanically, except for the carb area. The number of quarts of oil the F model uses I'm sure will be more (maybe half a quart more, I conjecture).
