I just bought a '93 500e (I love her already) cheaply on the basis that it didn't run. I figured seized engine from sitting (it only has 1K on it) but when I yanked it all apart two of the valves were bent and I need a new Valve Seat. Apparently the idiot I bought it from tried to tow it and pop start it when the valve seat rusted up from sitting and what not. Now, I need a new valve seat but I can't seem to find any where that has one for me to buy. Any ideas on where I can get one???

Thanks,

Melissa

Bent valves from push-starting???
Not wanting to be bearer of bad news, but I bet something hideous happened before the bike sat still for over 10 years. Like maybe some @$$hole ran the bejesus out of it and destroyed a lot more than just a valve seat. Can you get your money back? Probably a dealer is your only hope for the valve seat.

Buy a whole head ... Dgyver had one or maybe it was a modified head with mondo performance ... I may be able to find one ... then you check what else needs doing, cylinders honed and new rings ... maybe 1/2 mm or 1mm larger pistons if the cylinder wont take a hone ... Hopefully you dont have to get into the bottom end ... that is hard and $$ ...
Cool.

It has two bent valves from the pop starts which really sucks but I can deal with that. Not sure what caused the valve seat to go. Other than that there appears to be nothing else wrong. Even if I had to replace the entire motor it was a good deal. My dad is like the guru of fixing things but just didn't know where to get a valve seat and didn't wanna try fabricating one of his own. I just called a parts place in my area and asked them and the guy was an a$$ and told me that "that bike is a piece of junk why would you even want that to begin with?" and   :x  No wondering I order everything online rather than patronizing local business. I'm just not sure what I should be doing now. Any suggestions?

well when you get some vacation time come on over.

Very easy to bend a stuck valve from push starting. Putting on another (used) head would be the easiest and cheapest. Valves are around $30 each. Usually you can get a head for around $50-$100

What condition are the cams in? They rust real easy from sitting.

Yeah I have seveal heads...stock, ported and milled. Not interested in selling them. Not sure which ones I will using for rebuilding the motors I have.

The cams acutally look great. Thats the wierd thing about this bike...nothing looks bad except for the valves and the valve seat.

That is good about the cams.

Another issue that you may have is that the valve guides may be damaged from the valve being stuck in it. They are a PITA to replace. About as bad as replacing a valve seat.

I just checked the guides and unfortunately it does look like one of them will need to be replaced. I knew it needed alot of work when I bought it lol what else could I expect for $100 right? At least it'll eventually get me off of that damn little Honda. Its a good little bike but I do not want to be on a 1970 cb350 any longer! lol

Well worth the initial price and 2 decades newer than your CB.  :thumb:

So after more closely examining the valve and the seat, I've come to the conclusion that it must have been cracked or something when they originally installed it. It seems to have crumbled, lodging several tiny pieces which caused the valve to freeze. Then they must have tried to pop start it and bent the valves. Minimal damage to the piston and the head itself. They are salvagable. Now...idk..guess I'm looking for a head. Idc if its dead, all I need is one good exhaust and one good intake valve and one good valve seat. $$$ to be had to get rid of ur dead head. Someone help me out???

I've got a bunch of heads laying around. I'm sure I could scrounge up a couple good valves to go with it. Contact me with your mailing info.
You can have it for the cost of shipping. :thumb:
