Not only is he Lance, but he's got the best team on the planet supporting him.  I feel bad for his teammates as they are critically important to Lance's effort, but they get virtually no press.  Hopefully they get paid well... and it's probably really good for their resume.

But yes, I think he's got it in the bag.

I cannot get into the mentality that makes a man virtually devote his whole life and career to one event but you have to admire his single-minded tenacity.

You won't piss off the French like that, they'll simply "adopt" him like they have Helen McArthy (Brit yachtswoman) or any foreigner that does well in things close to the French national psi. Eddy Mercx, perhaps the only other cyclist who could have a claim to "the greatest" tag never let them forget he was a Belgian.

Well he's won it for the seventh time and retired, I hope he has a long and happy retirement. I can't see a guy who has beaten testicular cancer and won seven tours sitting around all day so good luck to him on whatever challenge he chooses next.

Don't you just get the impression that he could easily do it an 8th time?  

That would be a lot to ask.  But if he ever decided to do it, it would be easy.  Wouldn't it?

Just like Barry Sanders could come back and rush for 1,600 yards and 20 TD's on a decent team.  Or Mark McGuire could come back and crush 50 homers.  

I think he takes a year off, goes on a 8 month long bender, and comes back and wins it in 2007.

Barry sanders is 38 and hasn't played since 1998.  I doubt he could crack the starting lineup on any NFL team.

But yes, Lance could probably do it again next year.  I respect the desire to never see the year that he finally can't do it, though.  Takes balls to go out on top.
