Not quite hippie folk, not quite rock, kinda funky... I think Paul Simon did a much better job of the fusion crap they try to pull off when he did Graceland, but they're a fun listen anyway.

Discuss.

I have an album or two of their stuff. I like em, not the most talented of musicians, but like you said, fun to listen to.

one of the worst live bands I have ever seen.  Granted, I generally dislike jam rock and it's barefooted fusion offspring, but they were just terrible.  At least I didn't pay for the ticket.

I've seen them play at my school (Catholic University of America in Washington, DC) at a free show. I thought their show was OK. Not outstanding or anything, but just OK.

they're from pittsburgh and pretentious as hell.
About 10 years ago when they had their one and only "big" song it was so overplayed that I still twitch and piss myself whenever I hear it.  I too have seen them live and was not impressed. They're definitely no phish, or allman brothers band (known for their jams) or even Ween (another PA band).  I've seen Ween 3 or 4 times and their jams are pretty awesome.

Anyway I lived down the street from the rusted root folks, that's my claim to fame.  They weren't nice when they came in to get coffee in the shop where my wife (then girlfriend) worked.

Ween is the shiite.  "Piss up a rope" is a personal favorite.

I'm a big fan of the lesser-known Ween song, "Buenos Tardes Amigo" definitely listen to it if you get a chance :thumb:

As far as Jam bands go, I like:
String Cheese Incident
Medeski, Martin and Wood

Now we're talking... I really liked SCI for a long time, and saw them live a bunch, at least a dozen times, but I just don't like their latest albums as well.  Medeski is good too, better live IMO.  So is Bela Fleck.

Donna the Buffalo is a good band from NY, but my all time fav. is moe.

Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.
