So I go out to my bike to ride down to the story and find this:

The only two things I can think of is (1) Someone tried to steal my bike (2) Vandalism..???

#2 doesnt make alot of sense, but neither does 1 since there are a bunch of better bikes in my complex.  Is that what a lock looks like when someone tries to break it?

Are there any safeguards I can buy to keep that from happening again?

Anyway, moving forward, I can't get the key in the lock at all, do i have to take it back ot the dealership? or can a locksmith replace it for me?

Thnx.

Do you have the 500F?  someone may have confused it for a more expensive models

I have a nice coat of rash on my cases so I don't usually worry about my bike

I'm just on my second WileyCo pipe :x
this time I stamped my initials into the end cap so it's nice and unsightly

IF you can't get the cylinder out yourself, the dealer or an independent shop may be the only option.  Don't forget you have one key for everything so they might be able to get a new lock cylinder made to your key but I'm not sure if they can

You say there are other bikes nearby.   Did you see if there is similar damage on them?  If so, I would say someone was out shopping for a bike.   I doubt vandalism.  Put a brake lock on it.  Nothing is foolproof, but theives are lazy, and the more deterrents you put in the way, the more likely they are to leave your $hit alone.
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

Yea, it's an F, so I guess to the unknowing eye it looks like a gixxer.

I didnt check any of the other bikes locks,.. yet.

go to home depot and get a bunch of chain and a padlock then chain it down.

better yet go to home depot and get chain then go home a wait for the bastard to strike again and then beat the offender with the chain.

Yep, I think so too... it was probably teens or pre-teens that dared each other to see if they could start your bike with a screwdriver.

Yeah... If it was a real thief the post would have started something like, REWARD.... Has anyone seen my bike?

Actually I would have almost prefered a real thief - then I could have gotten a new bike out of the deal (thnx to insurance).  Instead, I'm stuck with reapair work.

Oh well.  I'm going out rafting this weekend - I'll fix it next week.

It usually takes at least six weeks for an insurance company to settle after a vehicle is stolen... One week for a repair equals more riding  :thumb:
