Race report from my old bike

I just got an email from the new owner of my bike with a recap of his last weekend of racing. This was his first time out on the bike. He was racing in CRA at Brainerd. Thought I would share, I hope he does not mind.

-------------

Well, its first outing went quite nicely. July 15, 16, 17 was a busy, but satisfying weekend. Friday's practice gave me some time to get familiar with the bike, and adjust the jetting a little bit. I like the GP shift pattern, but it takes some getting used to. By Friday's end I had a new personal best lap time (2:07.03) better than 1/2 a second quicker than my old best mark.

Another jetting tweak and a few clicks on the rear shock and Saturday's (short) morning practice showed more improvement. My only race on Saturday was the 17 lap Trophy Dash, a multi-class race (each class is scored separately) that has lightweight bikes(mostly SV650) and ultra-lightweights on track at the same time. Long story short, I got a bad start, last into turn one, but managed to finish second in class.

Sunday I finished third in Sportsman Superbike and Ultra Light GP. The best, however was in Ultra Light Superbike. Three of us hooked up nose to tail on the second lap and traded spots for the entire race. A three bike draft down that mile long front straight is amazing! On the last lap I was in third going into turn one. I passed one rider there, then caught the lead rider in turn two and passed him on the brakes going into three. I was still in the lead coming onto the front straight and expected to get passed, but managed to get to the checkered flag about a bike length ahead of the guy I passed in turn one. Some fun!

Glad to hear that my baby can run!  :thumb:

He started racing last year on a basically stock GS500 and blew up his motor last month.

Whoo Hoo! Now that's exciting!
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

At least it is being put to good use.
