Okay man...get the Gixxer thou'---whatever gets your rocks off.  But whatever you do...don't, under any circumstances send all of your money to me before you crash.

I speak from experience here son, do NOT send any money to the following address:

219 Village Circle
Santa Cruz, CA 95060

And please, for the love of God, don't let me sleep with your girlfriend once you're in the hospital recovering.  I repeat, you are making a big mistake.  DON'T LET ME SLEEP WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND.

Quote from: scottpeelHmmm.. maybee the 500cc GS is too much ehh?? Should we all start off on 50cc bikes? Why chastise everyone who wants a bigger bike? I have only been riding 3 months and I rode my friends busa for 200 miles. I didnt die, I wasnt even remotley scared of it.. yea its fast but if you have a good head on your sholders you can ride any bike. I am still plenty happy with my little GS but I dont see the point in being affraid of a bigger bike. If you are comfortable on it buy it.. But ride one first! I dont think that all that power is worth it.

Was the 200 miles on the highway, or in the canyons?  (My point being that it doesn't take much to ride in a straight line.)

I work with a guy who owns a 2002 'Busa and just bought one of the new 05 GSX-R 1000s, and he swears up and down that the GSX-R is a goddamned monster and has scared him more than once with the power it has on tap all over the dial.  He loves his new bike, don't get me wrong, but I get the distinct impression it's not exactly a ride for the inexperienced.

What insurance company is this?

I called a ton of insurance companies, and I pay ~$800 a year for my GS500 and my Speed Four.  I don't have full coverage on either of them.  I'm 31, no speeding tickets, no accidents, but have 100/300/50 coverage in case one of the uninsured motorists around here hits me.

I knew someone that was given the wrong info before he bought his bike.  He bought it, then when he went to insure it, they gave him a much higher price.  If you're 18, I can't imagine why your insurance would be so low, unless it's liability only.  On a GSX-R 1000, I'd definitely recommend full coverage.

I read somewhere that the average life-span of a GSX-R 1000 was like 60 days, anyone know if its true?  They're supposedly either crashed or stolen quickly.

My Name Is Dave

I believe the #1 most-often stolen and crashed bike for this year is anything in the GSX-R series. Do a Google search and you'll find the same. Why? God, I don't know...

No, we chastise the people who think they've "outgrown" their bike.  After less than a year of commuting. :P  Even the GS is more of a bike than most folk out there are riders.

Why ask us if it's the wrong choice if you've already made up your mind?

Quote from: Pinoy21337COme on man im not scared of the front wheel coming up.  Ive dont hundreds of wheelies on the gs and no accidents so far.  The reason for the 1000 is that if i get a 600 gxsr i will out grow it, if i get the 750 i would want to trade itin for a 1000 later so why not the 1000.  After 2005 all bikes cant have modified mufflers or anything, a law is being past.  If you you purcahse a 2006 bike and alter the muffler or exhast system in any way you can get fined big time.  I dont need a lecture on how the bike will do wheelies in 1st or 2nd with a twitch of the throttle hand or how it can go 90mph in first gear.  The main reason for this post is for the insurance quote and how accurate it seems.  And who makes the HP rules anyway about not to double it on another bike.  If i get the 750 i dont want to go threw hassle of trading it in for a 1000 down the road.  I plan on keeping the 1000 for a very long time.
for practical purposes, it is impossible to outgrow a 600 on the street, even doubtful on the track...

that remark is filled with so much bullshit, even the salesmen where i work (Barney's) talk to customers about outgrowing 600s etc etc, pretty damned retarded...you want a bike you can spank near anything with and will never outgrow? -> Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636ccs ...if you "outgrew" the 636 on the street you are breaking too MANY da*$% laws and will inevitably increase my yearly insurance rates!!!!

oh and when the 1000 is in a chop shop my theft coverage will go above the already sky high $1000 a year..... :nana:  :nana:  :nana:  :nana:

speaking of which, we just sold a 1000 cc bike yesterday and it was stolen today from the buyer who is now in debt for $11000 for something that doesnt exist....last christmas we sold 2 men red yamaha yzf-r1's before they even rode 200 feet out on to the main road they both wrecked, half a year ago a man purchased a hayabusa (aka pee pee mobile) and wrecked it into the place where employees park and never even got out of the parking lot....sold a ninja zx-6rr to a guy who wanted to ride it home, after we saw that he didnt know how to start it, it took 3 salesmen to convince him let us deliver it...every day i get AT LEAST one call from an insurance company looking to get a quote on replacement parts for wrecked ninja zx-6rs (636)...

statistically i will be looking forward to your post about your stolen gsxr or totalled gsxr, but whatever your decision may be, it is yours and all I have done was impart to you everday facts..

best of luck...

cheers,
alex

Or North Dakota. Either place - forget 200 miles, you can go all day without seeing a turn.

they were each going the opposite direction on highway 60, of course they wanted to show off, we warned them about new/cold tires and cold roads near christmas, but they both hammered it and ended up on their asses
