I have to replace my clutch cause it's starting to slip.
Does anyone know how many clutch plates the GS use cause I already know what type it uses but I want to get the plates before I strip it.

Has anyone done it before, can you do it in the frame ? From what I hear it's quite easy to do. Any pointers or mention of possible snags would be welcome.

The GS uses the same clutch as the 99-02 SV650/s but with 7 friction plates instead of 6.

Takes about 1 hour to change a clutch, unless you have to scrape the gasket. And do not forget to get a case cover gasket as well. There are 2 bolts behind the rotor pick-up plate. You can lean the bike to the left instead of draining the oil. Make sure there is not anything in the small passage leading to the oil pressure sensor.
Common sense in not very common.

What I am  interested to know is how many of those plates are friction plates and how many are actually clutch plates cause I'm buying the loose clutch plates and you don't need to replace the friction plates.

What I was calling the friction plates are the ones with the cork/kevlar bonded to them. The GS uses 7 of them.
