Had the pleasure today to head out to Ludington MI today:

The first 30 minutes of the ride is on high-speed slab, and since my significant other isn't as keen on driving as she is being at the destination, I negotiated to haul the bike until we got to roads of character, then ride the 90 minutes to the destination.  So I loaded the bike and off we went:

We got there just after lunch, but we hadn't eaten yet, so we dropped by the House of Flavors. It's an old ice cream store turned restaurant.   Has an interesting menu, but the desserts are to die for.  Here's where they put them together:

and this is Strawberry Fields Forever:

(Tastes even better than it looks.)  Then, we were off to the beach -- the end of Michigan's US10.  One of the benefits of riding a bike is preferred parking:

(The Ludington harbor lighthouse is off in the distance.)  After a dip and a sun bath, we decided to walk the 1/4 mile out to the lighthouse:

A seagull (better known perhaps as a lakegull) has the best view:

Here's the shore looking north of Ludington.  A lot of sand dunes, beaches and the odd bit of green:

and the view looking south of Ludington.  More of the same.

On the way back to shore, we passed this summer resident:

We packed it up and with the Mrs. feeling relaxed I rode all the way back.  Had to switch to reserve at 70 mph, something I feel I should practice more often. Had 242 miles on 4.065 USGal, or 59 mpg for $10.  The minivan took almost three times that, but everyone had smiles on a good day spent in the Michigan summertime. :thumb:

Hey Redskin, hope you enjoyed my home town of Ludington/Scottville. I used to work at the House of Flavors when I was teenager, it has changed a lot since then. If you want a good ride try heading up from Ludington through Manistee, then follow the coastal road all the way up to Traverse City region. It is about 2 hours ride from Ludington. My uncles on their Harley's and I on my 500f did the trip in May up to Kalkaska, great roads, scenery and places to stop and eat.
