The thing I enjoy the most about my job is that I get to teach english slang to my Romainian coworker.  It is great fun.

What I always like (NOT!) is explaining the relationship between spelling and pronunciation in English.  My favorite example is a progression like this with "ough".  With the exception of the first one, each transition is a single-letter change:
    drought (ow)
    thought (ah)
    though (oh)
    tough  (uff)
    trough (off)
    through (oo)[/list:u] :o

Yes pronunciation throws her off but I always have to explain, for example, what words or phrases like ho bag mean.

I always enjoy learning slang/curses in new languages.  When I was in high school Spanish, I could gather from watching TV that "cabron" was a major insult, but never understood why calling someone a goat was so offensive.  A latino guy I worked with finally explained it to me one day, and also explained why Chi-Chi's was the dumbest name for a Mexican restaurant ever.

raylarrabee

yes, chi-chi's always made me want to open a restaurant that served american food and call it Hooters...oh, wait...

a chinese (or maybe taiwanese) guy i work with is working on procedural behaviors for video games.  he was saying that what he hears from the industry is that animation is the big chicken-block in production.

the term he was looking for was bottleneck.  i had to correct him on that one.
