hey guys I am in need of advise..I have a 1992 GS500E that will not start. It has been starting up beautiful every since I bought it last October.
However now it does nothing when I hit the switch. The lights are all on and dont dim down when I try to start. It does not make any ticking noises when I try to start either. Its just like I am NOT pushing the switch. I just tried to roll it down the hill and jump start it with no luck. It made a slight short noise then nothing..Do you have any ideas? Starter? Alternator?

Thanks-

It sounds like your starter is busted.  get a new one

check to see if the two little wires got unplugged from the underside of the clutch grip.. if that doesn't help you, I know Kerry will have a lot to say..

Ditto, I've had that problem twice and both times it frustrated the hell out of me. The clutch cable connection vibrated loose and it would not start, yet the lights would work just as you describe. I was able to pop-start it though. You sure you are doing it right?

Someone said the earlier models didn't have the same configuration of wires at the clutch switch that later models have.

If your lights work then your fuse is OK.

Start with the obvious:
    * Engine Kill Switch is ON?

    * Clutch lever is pulled in?

    * Sidestand is ALL THE WAY up, and/or bike is in Neutral?[/list:u]If all of that looks OK, then do a Search (use the link at the top of this page) for
starter relay switches.  Make sure you check Search for all terms.  If you want to limit the number of returned threads, specify author Kerry.  If you don't find what you need in those 6 threads, search again without specifying an author.  You'll get "only" 19, which isn't too bad considering....
