Here's a GSTwins Forum public service announcement:

Motorcycling is fun, and one of the reasons is the exhilaration of going fast.  But speed has its drawbacks, and a big one is the physics of stopping quickly.

I'd like to advertise this well-done video reminding us of how stopping distance is affected by even minor differences in speed:

Slow Down Please.mpeg
(You might have to save the movie locally before playing.)

Done for Australian TV (New South Wales), it is a rather graphic (explanitory, not gory) example how an entrance speed of 60 kph (36 mph) and 65kph (39 mph) affects stopping distance.  (Granted, it's with cars.  But it is extendable to bikes -- same laws of nature apply.)

We tend not to think enough about our speed until it's too late.  Let's ride safe out there.

Roy...

Brought to you by the folks involved in the Tank Bag Detector thread.  As well, I'm heading out to Ludington MI with the family for a look-see, and dedicating the ride to Kerry, another year older and hopefully wiser.  Ref: Happy Birthday Moo-Derator.  I'll be hard at work trying to keep to the speed limit -- but for sure in the towns I ride through.  :thumb:

i really liked that commercial, in the states they make commercials more exagerated and annoying, that one was very informative and believable...

What's that supposed to mean?

Thanks for the cool link.  Very Matrix-y!

PS - What's the attraction in Ludington?

EDIT: Never mind!  Your pictures and narration in another thread answered that one.  You even provided your own map!  :)

Very cool commerical - great editing.  I wonder how long they spent in a green-screen room and on an Avid system getting that put together.

Kerry, when you learn something new about the GS500, we all benefit via your web page and forum responses. I and untold others are better for it.  Thanks.   :thumb:

Oh, and Ludington is just a nice place to ride to and see Lake Michigan from (and have ice cream).   :)
