Don't buy a VW van unless you are a decent mechanic. The air cooled models have no power and aren't good for long interstate driving at high speeds.

I used to have 78 camper, it was great for camping w/in 100 miles of home and for hanging around the parking lot of Grateful Dead shows. However, driving long distance was like setting out on a British motorcycle.

you could go to a state auction and pick up one of the smaller vans.  They usually sell for dirt cheap.  Throw some bean bags and air mattresses in the back (cause there are no seats ususally unless you get a 15 passenger van) and you will be good to go.  They usually have auctions like that at state universities or state auction grounds and they are open to the public, at least here in VA.

umm..motorcyle?

the only way to travel.

One pair of clothes(the ones your wearing), gloves, jacket, helmet, ear plugs, some food and water that'll fit in a small backpack.

Go...

When you get tired..pull over and sleep

Wake up...and keep going
Peace
