My cousin is up from Florida with his brand new r6. He bought this bike brand new from the dealer as soon as it was available with money he got in a car accident that almost killed him. He then used additional money from that settlement to put at least $2000 worth of mods into it..Just looking at it I could tell this bike was sweet. So on the way home he offers to let me drive it   So we switch bikes, I can only touch with one foot, and just barely enough. I turn on the bike and he goes "watch it around 10 grand" and scoots ahead of me on my gs.  :o yeah freakin watch it around 10 grand, you can barely keep the front tire on the ground when you try. That bike had some major zip, 115 and that was all the balls I had. I think I'll stick with my lil gs, which had no trouble keeping up when we were actually driving legally lol.  I'll take some pics later... :thumb:

Oh I rode with him 2up...being a passenger sucks Im fine when I make it come off the ground a little but when I'm on the back and someone else is driving....I need to change my pants

sounds fun  :thumb:  what did he think about riding your GS? I like the way the R6's look but never rode one.
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

A while back I also had a chance to ride a older Yamaha FZR 750.  The guy was thinking of selling it to get a cruiser or trade it for a car.  He is a older guy and takes good care of his stuff.  He said it was jetted and had a pipe on it.  The emblem was removed off of the pipe and holes had rivets in them.

All in all I rode it for about 20 minutes and loved it.  I loved how it felt and it pulled pretty good up to 120ish ;) .   I love the old school looks too.  But he would not come down on the price/trade for the bike.

If I got to ride a new r6 or r1 I would probably never take it back  .

I have a 99 sitting in the garage.  it sits there, that's about as much as she's good for.  I'd rather ride the gs.

Davipu, you've got a 99 FZR?  What don't you like about it?

Onlypastrana: your post breaks a stereotype on this message board (the one that says that if you ride an R6, you'll crash right away).

That is cool!  I think you may have bigger balls than me though, which kind of sucks.

I have a girlfriend with a '99 R6 ; to be honest, she prefers to ride my '97 VFR750. I prefer to ride...

...my '97 VFR750, but that R6 is wicked fun. She originally bought it to convert it to a "track" bike, but the thing terrifies her, so she rides my old GS racebike on track days, and now she's actually LEARNING something about riding, rather than simply trying to hang on; I ride the R6 on trackdays, and occasionally on the street. After all, we don't want the carbs and plugs to foul from sitting, do we? :)

You know how it is; she started out on a Honda Squab (AKA the Nighthawk 250) and FIVE WEEKS LATER decided she "needed" a 600 supersport. That is what happens to people who have too much money, and time on their hands  Of course, I don't mind loaning her my VFR, because that R6 brings back the old knee-dragger memories INSTANTLY, and makes me regret selling my '89 FZR600. If I hadn't begun to develop carpal tunnel, I'd STILL have that thing in the garage.

Hope you learned to appreciate what a great learning platform the GS5 really is; when I have some free time, I'll try to help you decide on a paint scheme for your '93. In the meantime, read this post for some ideas, and be sure to check out the photos in the links:

+1.  Yeah, I'm curious too.  I loved my GS, but after having ridden the F4i for a month or so, I decided that I just wouldn't be doing the GS enough justice to keep it.

davipu

because I have to take it to the track to push its limits.  and that crap's too expensive.

It'd help your reputation on this board if you actually rode it before you knocked it Dave...

I can't believe you got it running already?

you forget (or wern't here) back in the day when i mentioned that a old roomie of mine had a 03, which is alot better than the 99.  and she runns and rides, she's just not street leagle, or track safe.

Blazinjr

why not street legal?
