I've got a friend, we'll call him Zack, he is a mutual friend of Danny's and mine both.  He bought an 03 CBR600RR and put like 8K on it.  Maintained it well, besides crossing the center line in a right hander and letting the bike throw him over the truck, the bike careened back into the correct lane and was subsequently hit by another friend of ours, "Mike".  Mike now is selling his 05 600RR, sick of working on it to get it back to par, and wants something else.

Anyway, I might have the opportunity to buy Zack's bike, the one that hit the truck, for cheap, maybe 1500.  Forks are obviously bent, rim is bent, steering head is split at the bottom, top is still there.  Haven't looked at it besides a quick glance in semi-dark conditions, obviously all fairings are gone.

Would it be possible to re-weld the steering head on there?  He only had liability, so he didn't even claim the wreck on his license, so if it was fixed, it would still have a clean title.

Whaddya think?

Walk away from it... You'll spend WAY more than it will ever be worth for it to be right... You'd have to cut the whole steering head off and replace it with another (VIN #'s  ....)... Then resale is impossible other than for a track bike... IF you get the frame really straight (what's the name of that frame straightening company....)..it's still going to have the tell tale weld marks....

It's just a whole big ugly can of worms...

Now if you can get it really cheap and sell the motor.....put that profit towards something a little more worth fixing...

My 2 cents...
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Yeah, I'm sure Danny will chime in here...pretty rediculous if you ask me.

I don't need a track bike, and definitely don't have time for a project, so I can't see myself picking the bike up.

I have been debating keeping the GS and throwing some money at it, or keeping it and leaving it as is and getting some new threads for school, or saving for a carbed SV if I could find one semi-cheap.

It'd be pretty cool to do a some serious suspension work on the GS (front-end swap and shock), maybe an exhaust and headwork but whatever bike I have will be the only vehicle I'll have in SD besides whatever I can mooch off my sister.

Now I'm ranting, and I'm going to stop.

I just remembered that Zack is going to lose his license from his CBR dealings, and lost his job because of his required downtime from healing up.  Disability at 18 is always a good place to be. :x

Oh yeah, went on a little canyon run with a guy that probably contributed to Zack's attitude towards bikes, he was boasting about doing 130 passing repeatedly on double-yellows, now normally I'd look past that if it was an area that was known for hi-speed bikes (like Angeles Crest) but a lot of the traffic on the road is families going to the boat launch, or going home.  Rediculous. :o

not even worth finding an intact titled frame.  bout the only think of any value is the engine.

Yeah, I need a gocart like I need another guitar...

I do think a fork swap might be viable if I can do some engineering of the headlight/gauge issues before doing the actual mechanical swapping of parts.

We'll see how things roll, and how much $$$  I end up spending on gear this year (need a new jacket, pants, and helmet)
