Quick question:

What the hell can you use to remove the warning stickers on the gas tank and fenders of the bike that come stock?  I've tried goo gone, glue gone, lighter fluid, heat, soap and water... nothing but the ol' fingernail seems to work.

Any clues?

Thanks!  Very annoying.

If Roadstergal hasn't already answered your question.....heat them up hot with a hair dryer and peel them off and use goo gone to remove the sticky residue.

QuoteRubbing Alcohol and a soft cotton sock. The alcohol will strip the the wax off too. The higher % the better and it will not hurt the paint/clear. Then just wax over the spot a couple times.

I used to detail cars and remove all of stickers and stuff so I know this works.

I put a white tribal flame decal down both sides of my car.  After a year of the cops following me and constantly running my plates I decided to take them off.

For a small job like this a hairdryer will work fine.  Do not get it too hot or it will stretch and break a lot make more work for you and more of a mess.  Use some high % rubbing Alcohol and a soft cotton sock or just use you finger rubbing in a circle.  DO NOT press hard or then you will need to use some polishing compound to get the swirl/scuff/scratches out of the paint.  After getting the the leftover glue off wax it really good.  Some of the time I just use a good wax to take it off if ther is just a little left on the paint.

+1..... exactly  :thumb:

(just remember, go nice and slow with the hair dryer.  If you hold it too close too long you might bubble your paint)

OK, not to threadjack, but daneilah just reminded me of something.

Last night I was filling up and got a tiny drop of gas on the tank. I grabbed a paper towel and wiped down the entire tank like I always do after a fill-up, just to be sure. As I was doing so, I noticed little bubbles all throughout the paint. Little tiny ones. I had never seen them before, and I figured that it was just the brightness of the station's lights that was making me notice them.

Any one know if this is a normal deal with the paint? It's an '05 in blue, if that matters. I hope it's not a problem. I have taken the stickers off, but only with the warmth (well, 95 degree heat) of the sun and some bug and tar remover, but I only applied that to the stickers, not the whole tank, and the entire tank has the bubbles. They are tiny, but there nonetheless.

I had no problems removing the warning sticker glue because it peeled off with the sticker.

I am having trouble with the decal glue though.  I originally peeled off the decals using the hairdryer method which worked great but now the glue is still there. I have not found anything short of carb cleaner that will remove it.  The carb cleaner (acetone, toluene, methyl alcohol mixture) will eat your paint so do not use it.   :nono:

I tried all the stuff you mentioned and nothing worked.  I have since also tried Naptha and it doesn't work either.  I am going to repaint eventually so I will just sand it off then.

I haven't tried brake cleaner (which is not as harsh as carb cleaner I'm told) but that may eat paint too (don't know).

Pdx, im thinking maybe you left the goo gone on too long and combined with the gas; it seemed to bubble your paint up. Im not an expert; but it seems like a "logical" salution :dunno:

I wiped it off right after, and the bubbles are all over, not only in the 4-inch area where the sticker was on the tank. And I examined up close yesterday, and it seemed that there were imperfections along the top coat of the paint. How in the F*** would I get little dings on that part?

By the way, when I get back from my ride to the coast this weekend (I know, you're all jealous   ), I'll snap some photos and see if that shiat shows up.

So long, stink town!
