RUST!!! Rust in my fuel tank!!!

While I was doing work on my engine, I repeatedly had to take the fuel tank on and off.  I noticed a couple of times that when I disconnected the fuel lines from the frame mounted fuel-valve, the gas that had collected in the hoses was much more orange collored than I think gas should be (even had debris one time!)  :x  :o

Replacing the tank isn't an option (the part itself is too expensive and my paint would be too difficult/expensive to match)  Is there a way to fix this without taking out a second mortgage, if you know what I mean?
Thanks,
Scott

Dont worry bro... buy the POR stuff. Its not that expensive.. 50-60 bucks i believe.. and it coats your tank inside permanently. I believe there is stuff called Kreem that works the same, but ive heard Far more poeple who prefer POR over KREEM. Im doing this as well... since i have a pinhole leak that JB weld cant fix for some reason.

ALSO, til you get it fixed, get an inline fuel filter and splice it into the line that goes directly from the petcock to the lower Carb T fitting. :thumb:

Actually Rashad a kit is only $27.00 and shipping.

POR-15 will even fill in pinhole leaks ( so they say I've never had a leaking tank...)

Thanks a ton for the advice and for supplying that link.  I ordered the tank repair kit, so I know what my next weekend project will be.   :thumb:

I know you suggested an in-line fuel filter for the time being.  Would it be a good idea to have one of those full-time?
Thanks,
Scott

They are cheap so yeah.. have one all the time.  Some put them after the petcock... I put two in before.  One for the reserve and one for reg.  Maybe this will spare me from getting crap stuck in the petcock.  Who knows!   ;)

You're welcome - Think -.... Look on that site - they even have a downloadable directions thing ( I've never read the one on the site..). You can read up before it gets there...

It's really pretty easy...you just take your time and follow the directions... Piece of cake.

Hey Rashad...I always love when somethings cheaper...  :)
