My dad had the kidney stone thing when he was younger.  Cheer up, they might go away when you get to 50!

dang man thats tough...

I was on a business trip last year and the co-worker i was travelling with called me at 4 am to ask me to drive him to a hospital.  Now I knew by his voice that if a grown man calls you in the middle of the night to help him hunt the nearest hopsital that he was in PAIN.  Kidney stones are some bad stuff...

Hope you get better soon :thumb:

Can they use some kind of ultra-sound too break up the stones?  I still think I'd rather be cut open then pass a 3mm stone naturally.  Good luck, and get well.

hope you get better man.  My dad had kidney stones, side effect from diabetes, and I remember hearing the pain they caused him.  I wouldn't wish that on anyone.  Get well and hopefully one day they just go away forever.

Ouch! been there, Gallstones anyway. There are alternatives to surgery, Drugs, Laser, Ultrasound but like dgyver I had to go for the knife option. The good news is they are all gone along with the gall bladder but the bad news is sometimes I get "Ghost" pains which are bloody awful for five or ten minutes and knowing they are "Ghost" don't help a bit.

I hope you don't have to put up with that.

Sorry to hear about your condition dgyver. For having endured such pain for the past 20 years, I'm glad you're still able to keep such a good attitude. Best of luck to ya.

Thanks eveyone.

Just got out of the doc's office. I am going to be scheduled for ultrasonic lipotripsy in 2 weeks. Just outpatient surgery. The stent should enlarge the tube to help the shattered piece flow out normally.

Stones are not life threatening in themselves but when they are large enough, they can get stuck in the ureter (the tube from kidney to bladder) and shut the kidney down....that can be very serious.

Just discovered this thread Fri morning. I was going to ask if you were a candidate for the "sonic hammer" method. I've got female friend that deals with stones also. I happen to be in Greenville looking a one of my MRI systems when she had her procedure and gave her a ride home. She had good drugs and didn't trust driving herself.

I could tell you some OR stories about stone "manipulation," but it wouldn't help you feel any better. If you can stay away from the knife, or the stone grabber, you are WAY better off!

BTW, if you all want to know more about lithotripters. I haven't worked on them, but they do use xray fluoroscopy to localize the stone so that the sonic wave has a target. It will beat you up a little due to the energy - no way as bad as a high side. It is still better than the knife or grabber.
