Anyone into stunting at all?

I've been stunting on quads for years, and want to take it to the street. Just wondering if anyone else out there does it.

pandy

How about taking it to the track and the parking lot so that the rest of us stay safe?  :thumb:

On my dirtbike on my land I mess around alot, on the street I've wheelied on friends bikes with permission down a private paved road, thats about all of it.

EDIT: On a random sidenote, I tried to have a friend of mine take a pic of me wheelieing the dirtbike, and it was near impossible because my digital camera would't take pics as you hit the button, it would autofocus and do all sorts of annoying stuff, so it would get me going up, comming down, and never at the peak. I wish I had more room to hold the front wheel up but my field is so skinny I can only hold it for a couple seconds before hitting the trees.

I like watching people do it.   :dunno:

Jake D

Hammu does it.  97gs500 (I think) does it.  And various others.  The links you may find on the subject on this forum are numerous.

I do a bunny hop on my GS.  So far as I know, I'm the only one to ever do this trick.

keep it out of the "streets", everyone hates it and you make it worse for other bikers and people in cars. a parking lot or a back street are fine, but once you take it to traffic you risk it for everyone.  i can wheelie a bike pretty far, but that isnt stunting to me, you got to be able to ride for blocks and stoppies and combos on lock, so i wouldnt label myself as a stunter yet.  i have pics in the wall of fame though, check em out.

First of all, I wanna know what the hell a quad can do that is actually qualified as stunting...a wheelie? Your best bet is a closed highway, they are the best and overpasses can hide you from the police. For long wheelies on the GS practice getting it up in the 11 o'clock and keeping the balance up by juggling the throttle, don't be scared to wind the revs out of your engine and hit the rev limiter to get a good balance. Then from there you can practice shifting up through wheelies.

if you are juggling the throttle is is very uncontrolled, it should be quite constant steady throttle with the rear brake keeping it at balance point.  the gs doesnt have a limiter.

I was going to say, does the GS have a limiter? the size of the carbs decide where the redline is right?

nope,  stroke, overall compression, friction, centriffical forces, Cam profile, valve spreings, overall Flow from carbs to exhuast pipe. some electronics if provided

the simple answer?  Mathmatics
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

Chris_B

haha oh, On the cb550 ive heard you can put cb750 carbs on (4-5mm bigger) and it brings the redline from 9200 to 12000. Is this wrong? Although, id imagine it'd be rough on the engine.

werase643

they have rev limiters.....
it is called valve flutter....
sounds like a shaking  tin can of pennies....

I can't do a wheelie myself but as far as I can tell most everyone with a sport   bike can do it, doing it high and for as long as you desire though takes some skill I would imagine, that'd be a stunt in my books.

your confusing RPM Redline :  a range Beyound specified limits of rotation in which parts can be self dystructive

and Power band : the zone of peak or most useable Horsepower

Larger carbs will generaly allow for more fuel and air to enter the engine (in theory anyway)

face it, if you pull the carb off, you cant get much more air in then that, unless you change bore, stroke, cam lift and duration ect

with stronger valve springs in a stock GS engine, you can probly push the redline safely over 13-14K RPM but there would be no point as power peters out about 9.5-10K on stock GS engines.

on the GS the redline is 11k? at 12K the valves no longer close fast enough to close comepletely, its juse bounces on the cam lobe, this is called valve float, power is no longer being produced suitable to rev higher. change those springs over to comp springs and you might safely reach a higher RPM before valve float, but the power band doesnt change.

now you must also watch the lower end too, the spinning mass and assolating (sp?) mass start fighting with themselves, they can reach a point of failure be it bearings or rod breaking.

So what limits the redline on the GS? the valves reach a point where the float, but whats stopping them from reaching that point? Do the carbs not limit the speed of the engine? below where things start to get messy of coarse, but its the size of the carbs that set the limit, isnt it?

Ok, ok, before everyone gets all preachy on me. I meant the equipment, not stunting in traffic. Jeez folks, I don't WANT to die. I was talking about empty parking lots, brand new undeveloped neighborhoods that have no houses, and shaZam! like that.

I consider anything that takes skill to be stunting. Yeah, anyone can pop a wheelie on a gx'r 1000, but can you ride it out past 150 coming out of a decreasing radious sweeper? Can you keep it up for 3 or 4 miles? As for the quad, you can do all sorts of variations with stoppies and wheelies. No handed, leg spreaders, and all kinds of goofy stuff that may not be cool to you, but takes some practice to get used to, and is really fun for the inexperienced to watch. I wasn't trying to upset anyone, just trying to see if anyone is into it. That's all.

ajgs500

Alot of us it a mode of transportation and can risk dropping it for no reason..  And I am sure my insurance would love to know I was doing that(Stunting).

Daniely

Well, Gru does it, ive done it on my old CBR. I could do standups (no shifting though) stoppies and endo's are easy now, skitching is fun...burnouts are expensive. Its fun stuff, but i wont do it on my new CBR, im to scared im gonna hurt it.
