so, the reassembly process is going smoothly except for the fact that i'm getting hung up on the rear end.  With the rear wheel, spacers, and caliper mount, i'm missing about 1/4" and can't get everything to fit back in place.  I tried wedging the mount in, then the spacers, then the wheel, then the axle, and any number of combos i could think of.  I even had friends try help me hold things while i tried to stretch the swingarm.... heh, yeah right.

But anyway, tried some searches on the rear brake mounts and only found results concerning lock-ups and squeaks, so i figured i throw this one out to you experts.  The frame and swingarm have been powder coated but i can't imagine that it would have had that much of an impact on the fit.  any ideas?   I'll try and post some pictures later in the afternoon so ya'll can get an idea of what i'm dealing with.  Thanks in advance!

You have all the spacers etc in and you're 1/4 inch too much on the small side or long side ... OK you need to spread the swingarm ?? so long side. OK lemme think. I think I seen a couple mm tight ... 1/4 inch is 6+ mm ... a good bit. Does it look like it had damage or somehting from an impact.

the swingarm is too tight by about 1/4", there doesn't apear to be any damage.  Not really sure what the deal is.

If you're sure (and you can stop by dgyver's or Starwalts - they both in your burg) and measure up, then you may want to try to spread it with like a bottle jack ... someone may have stepped on it or somehting before/after powder ... or somehting heavy may have sat on it or somehting. It shouldn't hurt if its spread, you dont wanna spread it when its fine as is, and then you need to crush it back in.

Just to check that it is not bent....what is the clear dimension inside your swing arm?

It should be around 8-3/8" (this was measured with the wheel installed). Without being tightened, it should be just a little wider. I can measure one that is not installed if needed.

Check a parts fiche diagram from //www.ronayers.com, //www.mrcycles.com or //www.bikebandit.com to make sure the parts are going together correctly.

If you need any help, I will be home most of Monday.
Common sense in not very common.

yeah, the 8 3/8" was right on, i got it to fit back together with the jack, just spread it a little bit.  The swingarm was 8 1/8" before i spread it, but now it's all good, thanks for all the help.

Man it sounds like that arm is too close for some reason. 1/4 is a lot of too close, but you got it together.

I may be pulling my rear end apart this week. Been overhauling brakes, front and rear. Need some bit parts, i.e. seals, boots, etc. Painting the caliper housings red. Duplicolor high temp engine paint, Chrysler red. It may not be dead on Italian red, but it will be close enough.

I need to pull one of the brake brackets off to repaint also. It is nice to have a donor to work with.

I too will be home all day Monday if you need some comparative anatomy to look at.  ;)
