took my gs to the streetrider track we have here at boundary bay and had a blast!

and i ended it with a bang!

checking out the damage - luckily i'd already taken off my mirrors.  barend, clutch lever and other scuffs but otherwise fine.  i was told that my bike crashes well, lol, the advantages of being naked!

OUCH!
I assume that's you standing behind your bike in the last pic. Glad your okay. So did your buddies analyze why you ...ahmm ...had the little booboo? ;) Just like to know for my own benefit.

yea, that tiny thing is me in the red and black.  this was my first time ever at the track.  was doing fine all day til the last round.  not too sure what happened - not enough throttle, not hanging off enough, need stickier tires... :dunno:

going back again this thursday - lots to learn!

Boundary Bay!  I did an automobile skills day there.  :)  Cool of you to get out and do that!
But it should be the job of the instructors to give you feedback on what happened, or you don't get to learn from the experience.  They should leave you with more than "not too sure."

drooler

Well, I'm certainly glad you're unharmed; injuries on top of crash-damage SUCK! Now, I'd like to know if you were doing low-speed drills, high-speed drills, or something else entirely. It LOOKS as if you were NOT moving very quickly; the lack of any serious damage seems to prove that.

Please let us know more specific details, so we can help you analyze this and understand what you might have done wrong. About how fast were you moving? What was the objective you were trying to accomplish when you low-sided?

If you were practicing counter-steering (can't really tell from the first photo, though the front tire DOES look SLIGHTLY offset to the RIGHT, which would indicate that you were counter-steering to go LEFT, and you're LEANING to the left), I'd have to guess that you were going too SLOWLY to counter-steer, and you SHOULD have been counter-BALANCING the motorcycle instead. I just can't analyze this any further without more information from you; I certainly don't want to spend a lot of time typing advice based on a HUNCH about what you were doing.

I'll try to watch for your reply; you seem to have some real skills, but right now, we need more information from you before we can help you understand what went wrong, and how to avoid making the same mistake in the future. Dropping it / low-siding in an empty parking lot or on a riding range is one thing, but if you do this in heavy or fast-moving traffic...

You look too young to become just another statistic, so let us help you become a full-fledged GS Wrangler. From what I can see in the first photo, your riding posture looks EXCELLENT; obviously, you've already got more than a few miles in the saddle of a motorcycle, but you might not have been focusing on skill-development as much as on simply enjoying riding (been there, done that, got the scars to prove it). Fill in the blanks; give us some details on what you were doing or TRYING to do, and we'll work forward from there.

I think it is cool that you got a picture of your low side!

Also, was it you knocking over all those cones?

I hope to try something like that soon, but I better get some leathers!

Hmm,  do you think its possible to fall in love with a GSTwin'er that you've never met (but seen in pictures of her lowside) ? ;-)

Vancouver is kind of far from Atlanta, though   :dunno:

My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

tab,
From the first picture it looks like you've got the gs pretty cranked over. Good form for a first timer. Glad you were unhurt-the track is where you want to push the limits and where you can safely crash like you did. Try to learn from your crash.

congratulations on your first time out. Just wait till you get on a proper track! :thumb:

Yeah, and look where that got you.   :P

WOOHOO! That look's like fun! Sorry to hear about the crash, but I'm glad you're allright, too! It looks like you have good form, if I was going to nitpick about anything, it would be maybe to hunker down, and kinda 'hang' or 'suspend' your upper body, like the nape of the back of your neck was being suspended by a string.

The bike looks good (maybe it's the fact that it's an '89, or the black front fender)!
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

The first picture made me feel like a total sissy...  Then the second picture made me glad I'm a sissy.   Ever time I corner hard I picture that happening...

Glad you're ok...  No leg issues?  Looks pretty mashed under there.

pandy

WoooHooooo!!! Great pics! It looks as though you're practicing flying here! You just haven't done the take-off yet!!

Congrats on your great track day and coming through your little lowside in one piece!!!  :thumb:

P.S. Does anyone else think that drooler sounds a LOT like the scarce-of-late Hugh? :P

Hmm, if it makes me a dork, then I'll gladly endure being one in this case  .  Tab rocks, and I'm her number one fan! ;)  Tab, let me know if you ever make it down around Georgia and we'll ride!

As an aside, i've never taken my bike to a track but I'm inclined to think that i've leaned my GS over that far on a few turns (the first pic, not the lowside).  I'm a new rider myself, so i'm interested in what led up to the bike going down.  I'd probably enjoy going to a track, but i'd have to (begrudgingly) remove the fairings first and attach the engine guards

Sorry about the crash, but glad that you're ok and that you had fun... and very pleased to (sort of) meet you.  What kind of street riding course/program was in that you were involved in?

It's easy to tell...  Just look at your tire wear.

Jeeeeerk!   :nana:

In about 3 months, I'm gonna have no tread in the middle and brand-new tread on the edges.  Giant chicken strips!

TarzanBoy

oh yeah?  Well, I looked at my seat and it was *totally* scuffed from my insane 135-degree, counter-steered lean angle that i not only dragged BOTH knees on, but popped a 2-mile stand-up wheelie during  :o

Lol, can anyone beat that?

RVertigo

I got to work without crashing!  That's good isn't it?
